Hardtail value
« on: August 19, 2019, 12:34:10 PM »
I have a PF hardtail I acquired decades ago and recently found it again in the closet.
It's jet black with a serial number of 006014BP. It is an early model.
Can anyone tell me what resale value this may have?

My guess is somewhere around $1600.  I received a couple of offers on my '95 hardtail Deluxe when I had it for sale recently.  Of course the condition of the guitar makes a difference.

Can you tell me more about the serial number. The forum members seem to read the numbers from right to left and some read them from left to right. Who is the authority on this matter?
Do I have a prototype or a production model?

The forum members seem to read the numbers from right to left and some read them from left to right.

Numbers (and letters) are read from left to right. It's what the numbers mean that varied over time. You said you've had the guitar for decades, so the serial number 006014BP would decode as follows:

The first three digits are the day of the year, the next two are the number in that day's production, and the last digit is the year. Thus your guitar was made on January 6, the first one of that day, in 1994. The neck is basswood (B) and the body is poplar (P), the standard woods for that model.

Ken Parker was, then some other employees were ... but now the forum members are.

A serial number alone is not enough to give a complete answer. So far, yours sounds like a typical black 1994 production hardtail. If you show photos that indicate something special or unusual about your guitar, the answer could change.

if you search the forum, hopefully you can find the serial number decoder for the pre-refined Flys.
You're supposed to read it left to right.  Your guitar's s/n has "4BP" as the last 3 digits, which means:
made in 1994, Basswood neck, Poplar body.
Yours is a production model since it's a '94.  The first year of production was '93.

Question 7 covers date of manufacture from the serial #, but the FAQ was not kept up to date - it does not help with a 7 digit serial number

Why don't you post some pictures. We can help give you some pointers on selling it. And if you're lucky one of the fanatics here will buy it off you!
