A FLY MOJO STRUNG WITH 12/54 - DANGEROUS ?

11-52s will be fine.  I've been using them for years.  At first the G, an 18, was a bit tight in the nut slot.  Carbon dust sorted than, and over the years the slot has worked a bit looser, and there's no longer a problem.  If you go to 12-54s then you will need to work on the nut.  I can't comment on whether the neck will take the extra tension.  All I can say is that it works with 11-52s.

Are you intending to use the whammy bar for jazz?  If not then you could replace the spring with a block of wood, or a metal strip.  I use aluminium because I happened to have some lying round.

Hi Roland,

Thanks for the post ! I like very much "facts", better than opinions.
Yes, I'm wondering if I will use the whammy bar. I've seen on this forum some pics of blocks of wood to replace the spring trem, and I carefully keep the idea somewhere in my mind... Any problem with the bridge, such as described by Noodler ?

(and I lent an hear to the Band of Gold, the sound is tight, it reminds me the good old bands that I used to listen to in pubs in UK, it rolls quite alright, the female singer's got the perfect voice for the repertoire, so keep on rockin' !)

Thanks once again, and all the best !

Xstian.

No bridge problems, but then I'm only using 11-52s, and the trem is blocked off.

and thanks for your remarks about Sarah.  She has a magnificent voice.

Hi,

I received this e-mail from the Parker customer service…

Hello

You can use .012 guage strings,  just ensure you use the proper trem spring.  You will also need to widen the nut on the bass side to accommodate the thicker guage.  You will not need to make any further modifications,  beyond using the appropriate trem spring.

Regards,

I received some days ago the 2005 MM Fly Mojo I bought on E-Bay France (1 611 euros, mint). Changed the strings for a DR Tite-Fit 11/50 set, put on a 11 spring trem, had to set the neck just a little, set the bridge on the fixed mode (and put a connection on the battery wires), and... everything's just fine. But I'm waiting for a 12 spring trem to put a 12/52 set of strings on it. The tension with 11/50 strings makes the guitar very resonant and lively. The action is low, it could be even lower, but there is some light buzz on the low E-string (between A and B) although the action is OK on the other strings. This Fly Mojo will be pleked when strung with 12/52.

This a very unusual guitar, but very addictive.. Need to be accustomed to, but there's kind of a strange feeling when I play on another guitar after I've played for an hour or so on the Parker. Everything's so much easier with the Fly mojo...

Thanks to everyone who answered to this thread, and for all the tips I discovered on this forum (battery wires connection, replacement switches, electronic diagrams...)

Best regards !

Xstian
