Stairway to Heaven - stuck in my head
« on: February 03, 2010, 02:01:26 PM »
I gotta say after many many years I finally decided to learn bits and pieces if not the whole song eventually.  Yes I have ignored "THE" song from learning as a budding guitarist.  Not sure why but things are about to change.  So as I dwelled into this via tablature - I have discovered what an amazing piece of composition this song really is.  Oh my god - every little piece is magic and as I learn I feel like I am putting a gaint musical jigsaw puzzle.

Just playing the first 12 bars gave me a woody and a confidence that I have not felt in years.  I feel like a kid again and can't wait to get home and learn some more bits.

I know to many of you this may sound hokey but I love playing guitar again.

To hell with hokey. THE song is still as awesome as the day I painfully decrypted it in 1975!  My musical life changed with that tune. (And my love life too!)
Happy trails!

I posted a poor recording via JamMan of an abbreviated interpretation of it on my Artist a couple of years ago. My JamMan wouldn't hold the full version.

Mine is amateurish but to hear a fantastic interpretation check out Stanley Jordan's.

IMHO ANY song that gives you that kind of buzz is a good song. Can't remember getting the reaction you mention [:0] but there has been many a shivver down the spine! [:p]

I don't care who you are or what level you are at, we ALL go though times when we are in a playing rut and start to doubt our reasons for playing.  It is good to find a tune or a riff or a bit of technique that can suddenly make you love playing again.
