OK, i play guitar in a circus ok?!

And you really have to concentrate real hard when you do it...

And if your gonna play a solo, ya gotta stand on the table and think grand thoughts...

And then...up up and away...

Watch out for them hula-hoops!

Whew, playing guitar can be hot work!

Surreal for real.

Man that is way cool. I love those airborne pictures.

You have to have great concentration and really know your fingerboard to play in that environment.

I'll bet you have to constantly be aware of whats around you...

or else your bound to step in elephant poop.

Well, just between you and me, it's actually nearly impossible to play anything remotely resembling coherent whilst in the air, the harness rides up and constricts various bits of your anatomy and the guitar gets pulled up into new and unusual positions along with it, the lights flash past as you slowly spin around hanging from a single point, and you really do need to watch just how close to landing your getting.

Not to mention foldback challenges...

As this number is kinda metal in genre,i usually just try to string a bunch of guitar pyrotechnics, dive bombs and the occasional melodic bit together, and if it comes off, great!

And for the record, it's one of those no animals contemporary circuses, so no elephant poop, just lots of genius bolagna....

OK, put some audio links in the sound clips section, under The Sweet Sound of Circus.

The thing hanging off the headstock is a PWIM (play what i meant).

No, just kidding, it's a tuner.

But i wish it was a PWIM!

And here's a couple of images of the actual (very squishy) setup:

and

and from the front, the whole "bandstage"..

And yes, i play those other blowy instruments too..

Ciao

@coolhands: Either you've seen the show, or you're taking an educated guess, but no, it's not the midgets microphone. I just swing it up for singing into and down for playing sax or just getting it outta the way. I mean hell, how are the punters gonna see me concentrating really really hard with that pesky mike in front of me?

And BTW, they're referred to as Short Statured Persons these days...

@Nefarius: One of the "joys" of working in any theatrical type production is what is known as the technical rehearsal, or tech run, where the show is basically run cue to cue without performance in order for the techs, stage hands, riggers etc etc to become familiar with the show, and to make sure everyone knows who's doing what during the performance. As you can imagine, circus has a lot of tech type activity, moving equipment on and off stage etc, and these tech run runs can get real long sometimes (4 hours +) and really, really boring, so sometimes, you just gotta have a little lie down.

Either that or it was one of those early morning soundchecks, can't remember.

See my expertly composed photograph below, aptly titled "Short Statured Person with Stuff to get On and Off Stage, Mic on Boom Rampant" for an illustration of all the above!

(Shhhh, don't tell them i've been taking photo's in between playing guitar solo's during the show..)
