The Sweet Sound of Circus....

OK, here's a link to a couple of bits of the tunes we play in the show, (check out the pics here:
http://forums.parkerguitars.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11034)

Now these are from the cheap and cheerful cd we made, the final product lacks comprehensive mastering etc and it was all basically played live in studio with minimal overdubs due to time and money constraints, but at least it's out there!

So, here's the flying in the air guitar solo i attempt to replicate night after night after night aft....

http://www.4shared.com/file/251537357/7f6b8123/Hula_Metal_Guitar_Solo.html

And here's a bit of a tune in a completely different nature;

http://www.4shared.com/file/251539748/1119721c/Rockies_Rope_Abreviated.html

And this ones fun when the crowd tries clapping along...

http://www.4shared.com/file/251691256/e0e1ee51/Hoops_last_bit.html

I used a laptop based setup for the recording that went guitar into RME Fireface 400 soundcard, running Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3 as a pluggin in Ableton live (which allows good control of Guitar Rig via a Behringer fbc 1010 Foot Controller, which has had the UNO chip mod) then back out of the Fireface to desk.
Live, i basically use the same setup but with the addition of a Music Music Man 130 HD212 amp that's had an fx loop mod, basically just a couple of jacks to give access to signal between pre-amp and power amp which is just so much more pleasing to play through than sending a direct signal to the FOH desk and having it come back through foldback.
Also means i can tweak sounds and know what they sound like, plus going through the MusicMan pre-amp before the soundcard gives the signal a lot more body, as i was having quite a bit of difficulty getting good clean sounds plugging straight into sound card, undoubtedly due to impedance mismatch problems.
Also use a wireless system.
SO it goes:
guitar->pre-amp in->fx loop (pre-amp) out->Fireface 400 (through various software devices)Fireface 400-> amp fx loop (power amp) in->speaker -> mic(sm 57)->FOH desk from where it's no longer my business.

And no, the latency doesn't bother me, it's un-noticable at around 3 ms, and yes the rig has been completely reliable, been touring this particular setup for about a year now with no problems.

In fact, been using laptops for various live sound gigs since 2000...this is the first time i've used them for actual real-time guitar processing though, and like i said, so far so good.

Reason i use all the digital stuff is to be able to access a wide variety of sounds very quickly, which is a pre-requisite for this type of show.

And i've added some pics of the actual setup back in the Flying with my Fly topic.(This forum's a bit like a scavenger hunt..)

Ciao

Why, thank you for the kind words gentlemen.

Dunno if FZ would be proud, but i'd hope he'd at least appreciate the paraphernalia of it all....
