Shazrock MASTERPIECE !!
« on: April 29, 2010, 05:40:43 AM »
all,
just wanted to share with you a latest (and sure just amongst others) masterpiece of Sharon & Lisa - SHAZROCK PAINT.
Sharon, you ROCK !!!Absolutely reliable, passionate, easy-going and great to work with..the most delightful experience in the past 42 years [:)]

Acquired the baby on e-Bay with the text:
Fly Deluxe from 1998 Emerald Green - slightly damaged.

now, being in Europe, the adventure starts.

Off we go - 'send me the cash', 'send me the cash', 'its a guitar from a friend I dont know details' etc. etc. - at the end the description on eBay was not that 100% correct - the Fly had some serious damages, but still good. Serious sellers and absolutely reliable. uff.

So, I decide to send it blindly to Sharon, following an email, basically a 3-liner to agree on price. Sending stuff from America to America should work without troubles. Just with a gigbag...umppffff.

The baby - hurray - arrives some days later at Shazrock and we start the Video-internet-thingie to see that we are actually real people. [:D]and there is also a guitar to paint. [:D]
Judge yourself how nigged the guitar was, I dont grasp what people are doing with their instruments - want to be Jimi Hendrix? throw it after their dogs ? hit wood because they read its an axe ??

Sharon recommended a colour that is 'as awsome as Tangerine if not better, but not exactly the factory Tangerine'. I can 100% assure you after I have never seen the colour before and colour manufacturer's codes do not tell me a shoot: Go for it. If Sharon says its 'as cool as this or that' or 'I would recommend' ....you can do it blindly.
As we know, no pic can recreate the real effect. What the heck! no risk, no fun.

Awsome Colour !
(must tell you that recently I have seen at Frankfurt Musikmesse the DragonFly Bolt-On in a very poor orange interpretation that does not even come close to the nice real Tangerine sparkling effect...)

Some weeks pass and there pop in some emails with pics attached. The only ones you actually wanna get [:)]
Really cool! An excitment I would repeat again and actually would not want to miss [8D] much more fun than going to the shop and jsut pick one from the shelf.

After all, Sharon repaired a lot more, so added value to the MAX!

- New paint with a custom color - awsome!
- New strap buttons
- New type 3 piezo saddles
- New trem bar (coated and rebent) and bushing set (was missing!)
- New input jack (wow!)
- New metal piezo knobs
- New hard shell case (purchased from the factory)
- D'addario 9-42 strings

Thanks SHARON, thansk LISA - thanks all.
ABSOLUTELY PLEASANT EXPERIENCE TO TALK TO SUCH PASSIONATE WORKERS.
...and I am glad there still exists a business like this one.

Enough wah-wah, judge yourself - Enjoy!

eBay Sales Rant - getting excited and doing the 3 months money savins taskforce post-buy:

First Step - getting anxious. Can they really fix all that?

Some time later - feeling relief. All in order! Sharon really cool:

Some more time later - getting really impatient:

TATAAAAAAA! WOAOOOOOOUUUUUUUUW!!!

That is a fantastic job.  Sharon did great work at the factory and she is still doing great work now.  I love the colour and I really like that she was able to get all the other changes and bits done for you.  You are really going to enjoy that guitar.

Looking good! The black-wrapped vibrato arm is an interesting twist, and I didn't realize you could get a concentric piezo knob that resembles the new metal ones. I'm gonna have to look into that.

Definately GREAT work! I think those look like the same concentric knobs I've used for other stuff. I do allparts for those http://www.allparts.com/SearchResults.asp?search=concentric+knob

Thanks for all the wonderful comments! This guitar was a blast to work on. And it was our first international job. As Klaus said, all of our correspondance has been thought email and pictures. These were the best pics of the new color I could get and it still doesn't do it justice. I've tried the stack knobs from allparts and they were way too big for a Parker set. You have to check the measurements against your Parker set the make sure they will fit.I also had to thin down the bottom knob and put a new recess in the bottom so it would seat over the nut properly. And I've never liked the foam tip on the bar so I take it off, rebend the bar and dip it in Plasti-dip. Works great!

Yeah, I also don't like that foam end on the whammy bar. When you are using the piezos with some whammy bar action, if you touch the whammy bar anywhere but the foam end, it picks up noise from you touching it. And I hold my whammy bar more in the middle a lot of the time. What you have done on that whammy bar is exactly what I would like to have on mine. I need to try some of this "Plasti-dip" stuff. Is it expensive? And where do I get some?

Hi Paul
You should be able to find Plasti-dip at just about any hardware store. Home Depot, Lowes, Menards. I think I paid around $7.00 for the can. Just follow the directions on the packaging.
