Who said Fly ain't good for metal/hi gain???
« on: April 30, 2010, 11:15:33 AM »
After the much discussed thread, here's a short clip recorded with Eldy. Yeah she can scream and grunt too when she wants, despite she rarely will as I don't like this kind of music.

You'll hear the riff play twice, the second time with a more aggressive EQ (that to my ears sounds better).

Who said Fly ain't good for metal/hi gain??? I think it's a good tone :)
Tell me.
Of course a player keen with this type of tones can surely do better. I just did this to give an idea.

Well, there's no way for us to verify what guitar you actually used on that sample. Even if you tell us you used a Fly you might in fact have used a Jackson Dinky, a Dean Dimebag model or even a Blackmachine. Because that's precisely what it sounds like to me: Not flyish at all. Nice try, but I won't get fooled THAT easily!

lol impossible! I only own two Flys, no other guitars. And it was Eldy! Eldy's bridge humbucker + Line6 original amp model "Modern hi gain" + Marshall 1960AV impulse + room conv reverb + EQ (for riff 2).
I don't own any other guitar.
I can make another clip with the same sound. Or the same with the Mojo!

Ok, seriously... you're completely wrong. It was Eldy, for real :)

Ahh, Line 6... that's why it sounded so digital. I was wondering at first if it wasn't a guitar patch from a Casio synth I was hearing.

Anyways, did you listen to my sample I posted a while back comparing what the same riff sounds like when played with a BC Rich or a Fly? The difference is STRIKING!

Now let's say I'd believe you for the moment. I bet you won't get a similar sound with the mojo. That's next to impossible given the Mojo is made of mahagony. The wood a guitar is made of is the main determinant of the tone you're hearing. Amps, PUs and effects can only modify this basic tonality slightly.

Ehehehehehe we'll see
I'll post the full ambient song I'm working on, and it's all made with eldy except a little part where the Mojo lurks in ;)

If you mean this one...

that you posted in this earlier thread...

http://forums.parkerguitars.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11064

... yeah, a lot of us listened to it. Striking indeed! No doubt about it - the two sections in that clip are like NIGHT and DAY. Same riff? Um, no - not quite.

If you doubt ability to hear subtle differences in tone, I'll give you an example of the accuracy of my hearing: I can easily tell by the sound of the drums that Pregno used the Drumcore 3 VST. Now, If I can hear that, I should be able to tell what guitar was used on the recording, shouldn't I?!

Wrong. I don't own that software. It's a free plug-in named Drumcore 3.

I used a midi loop I have on a CD with various backing tracks and stuff, modified it a little (especially  velocities) and sent to Drumcore. Then I used a Tracktion plug-in to "humanize" it a bit more and some subtle ambience.

I'd like to have Addictive Drums, but I tried the demo time ago and since I'm a real DONKEY in drums, I prefer simpler plug-ins.

THIS IS RIDICOLOUS!!!!!!
You wrote Addictive Drums first!!!!! and not Drumcore 3!!!
In fact I replied saying I wused Drumcore and not AD.

You're a really poor guy PS. Go back to your mum.

Hey man, just joking! I'll stop trolling now ;-) All this talk about certain guitars (and woods) not being suitable for certain styles of music is just silly. Yet these issues come up again and again. I'm sorry, but I find it tempting to make fun of it.

I've recorded the clip, this time with proper gear and especially much better playing and mixing.

Re-listen to it and tell me (same link above)

Ooohhh, sounds digital! Haha! Seriously though, the mix seems to be a bit more transparent, but it's hard to tell without a direct comparison. Is that the JMP at work? Doesn't sound like a Pod to me.

BTW: My file above is entirely played with a Deluxe.

It's the POD with the same exact settings as before. I just mixed better and most importantly, played better (and double-tracked)
