interesting. it just seems (vastly generalizing) there is such a "humbucks thru marshall with celestions"  thing that all things are held to that albeit great standard.  or "single coils thru whatever...."  If its not a strat or a les paul, essentiually you are on less understood ground.

the distinction of a fly,...well how would you design a tube amp for the magnetics, 1st gen or 2d????  this is the question.

the piezzo component is  aLREADY undergoing heavy refinement in the acoustic amp arena which may be the brite aspect bill mentioned above.

The Fly Deluxe is one power transformer away from a new build 6SJ7 & KT88 SE tube amp.  Mostly done soldering what I can until I verify voltages from the PT.  Hoping for 20W output with 435V on the KT88 plate.  More to come...

One of my greatest sounding amps is the "Octal Fatness" that I built. 6SJ7 input tube and a 6V6 power tube. Sounds really nice.

Paul, I have a few questions on Octal Fatness: Why the large 47uF 6SJ7 bypass cap? What's your B+4 voltage and 6SJ7 anode, grid2 and cathode voltages?

I don't remember about the 47uF cap, it was a 25uF on the original schematic.

B+ voltages measured from my own build were:

At rectifier diodes - 356V
B+1 - 348V
B+2 - 291V
B+3 - 247V
B+4 - 238V

Don't know what the other voltages were, I built the thing a while ago now. I remember that I had a hum problem with the 6SJ7s I had to work with, so I had to tweak stuff to minimize that.

Well, my last build is on the fritz, so it's time to re-work it from the ground up...  Now to decide if it will have the EF86 or 12AX7 front end.

CHAD

Hey Chad,
I have a Dr Z amp with a EF86 in it that plays real nice with my Parker NiteFly.  I like my 12AX7 amps as well though  :)  Sorry, not much help was I?  lol

I have tentatively finished my 6SJ7 & KT88 single-ended amp and it sounds very nice and chimey with the parker.  Now, my computer has been on the fritz and this sample made during a TEST to see if the iPhone could take an input cord.  I ended up running from the headphone out of my mixer and had to gently, partially insert in the 1/8" cord to get the iPhone to record something other than with the built-in mic.  There is still some digital clipping halfway through, but it's OK for a general example of how the amp sounds.  Played through
Parker Fly Deluxe
Octal88 amp
closed-back 2x10 with Celestion Tube 10s
SM57
Mixer
Headphone out
Loosely connected iPhone input to voice recorder

Recorded at full amp volume so there is just a bit of grit, however the amp is spanky clean through 90% volume with single coils, 80% volume with humbuckers.  Takes pedals VERY well, but none were used in the test.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/l6hs0fuv366lltz/Octal88%20test.mp3

Listening again it sounds much darker in the recording than live.  I also have a switch that selects a smaller coupling cap for less lows, but didn't use it in the test.

Yeah, that sounds pretty nice! It kind of reminds me a bit on an AC-30 in that sound clip.

I agree, a certain AC-30 feel is there.
Which is a good thing of course.

Greetings...
