It's a great luck to have Billy as a friend. Besides being pure talent is a very generous person. Always giving away their knowledge and helping all the forum.
This modification seems made in the original Parker factory. All of us at the forum are fortunate to have this great guy in the PArker world.

Thanks, teacher.

Wow- thanks guys!   ;D

I have to say, this has been a great place, and I've been very fortunate to have had a number of fun email conversations with awesome parker people all over the world, including Ken P himself and the refined staff at USM too.

I've also learned a ton here, and mostly I'm just happy I can help others in some small way (and keep myself out of trouble too).

I hope that someday I can meet a few of you face to face and grab a beer or jam a little!

What is the advantage of this mod?  How does the guitar sound different?

It’s all at the start of the thread. But in short, some believe the mag tone suffers from being routed through the preamp. I happen to agree though the difference is subtle imho.

I've read the whole thread, no one has done an A/B comparison, the most detailed description I read said it sounds like turning the treble pot down.  I'd rather turn the treble pot down if that's the case.  I LIKE that my Parkers are bright.

That's been my stance since my Fly purchase in 2009. Very happy with what Ken and Larry gave me ... and I have the option to roll off the treble whenever I like. Just a simple guy who's easy to please, I guess.

I think the main difference would be the way a passive electronics interact with whatever is downstream from them, pedals etc and even the amp itself, vs active electronics/pre-amp which acts as a buffer.

Exactly. If you want to feed the Fly into a Fuzzface, then the buffer will suck the tone out.  Otherwise, the difference is VERY subtle.

Not so on the refined fly. The ghost system is NOISY and the only way to go is to bypass that preamp.  I posted the mod for that somewhere here and it made a HUGE difference in sound.

I run my refined (and pre-refined) into a host of pedals-- including a Metal Zone, which is very noisy-- and never have issues

If you have the Fishman powerchip, there should be no issues.  It's the ghost preamp that's noisy.  Which do you have?
