Flash News:
The project is moving forward. I acquired a hard tail from Alex. I figured that it would be easier to install a Kahler in a hard tail than a regular Fly. My luthier concurs.
I sent the guitar and a brand new Kahler 7300 trem to my Luthier in Seattle. For those who are interested in that kind if details: the Luthier is Mike Lull of bass building fame.
The guitar will be stripped of the original electronics and trem, the nut replaced with a locking nut, the Kahler installed and the guitar set up by Mike.

If I have any money left after this is done, I plan to send it to get refinished.   I'm leaving the refinishing details for when its done as a surprise. Ha ha. This should be really special.

When Alex was going to be doing the entire operation, I had thought of painting the guitar with te Ducati colors and calling it the 908SSP special. But as I'm having it done somewhere else, I rebooted an went back to an old dream of mine and found someone who agreed to do this.

More in this in about 3-4 weeks I guess!

Cool.  Once the project is done and in hand, I'll be selling the electronics (ribbon, switches and knobs).
I have not decided on the bridge yet as I may want to mod one of my customs and make it a hard tail.  Not sure.  But if I sell, I'll PM you first.
Cheers!

Small production delays:  I had to buy an adapter plate for the Trem.
The saddles on the Parker Bridge are almost in the middle of the assembly.  On the Kahler, the rollers which are the saddles are at the far-front of the assembly.  This means the rout and mount will be quite a bit further back than the Parker Bridge, leaving a hole in front of the saddles.  Kahler makes retrofit plates and I had to get one so the trem could be mounted.
The guitar is being taken apart on Monday, rout should be same day or next - as soon as the plate arrives!  Then it gets all assembled and tested, taken apart again, shipped to a mysterious location for refinishing, back to luthiery for final assembly and set up.
Still a few weeks.  I can't wait!

Mr Paztag, I have revisted the forum at a good time - what an exciting project. Lots of pics please! I guess being surface mount the Kahler gets round the big cavity problem. I am sure if you look at David Gilmour's black Strat you can still see the filled holes and outline from a surface mounted Kahler. Still tricky on a Fly though. Sounds like you are in good hands with 908ssp engineering on board!

Hey Patzag! This could do with an update!

I am very curious as to how this is coming along...

I was waiting to get a few pictures to update but I'll do a text for now.
The guitar woodwork is done. (rout for the Kahler, filling in the non needed holes).  She's ready for electronics and stuff and then was completely stripped of anything
non-wood and sent to the refinisher.
All sanded down, filled, primer coat is on.
The base coat and various paint coats should be done by wednesday or so and then she'll wait for the paint to cure FULLY before I ship it back to the good hands of Mike Lull for the mounting of
hardware and electronics.
So a few more weeks before it's ready for its glamour shots and first sound bytes.
