Bill Frisell
« on: January 21, 2015, 08:51:32 AM »
He's been a long time local favorite, soft spoken friendly, appreciative, and conversational at shows or if you run into him in public.  Seems like a genuinely nice guy.

A recent radio (KUVO) interview with Bill Frisell highlighted a great musician and his philosophy about his style and music.

I paraphrase here,
When asked why he plays what he does,

"The notes and music tell me what to play so I am not limited to playing jazz or rock or country or fusion.
Each note and song leads to another note or song so my music flows naturally."

I could not have put it better.

Bill Frisell plays at East high school in Denver tonight for the first time since he graduated, should be a fun.

I love his work with Marc Johnson and John Scofield.  Don't know much of the rest of his stuff.  Great touch and beautiful feel.

I used to be able to see Bill all the time. I really miss that. Now that he's the most popular (jazz) thing since Pat Metheny.
I regularly buy his Live download series, which represent his output much more faithfully than his recorded output, and that is saying something!

He is often my favorite living guitarist, but in truth, there are about 20 of those!

Necro post:

Bill played his first gig of the new tour "What a wonderful world" last night here in Denver.
Even though he's using his Gibson ES335 if you get a chance go see him.
He's got Charlie Haden's daughter Petra singing. They were tight and having lots of fun.
