Replace mag pickup selector switch pre-refined Fly?
« on: September 03, 2015, 11:04:42 PM »
The 3 way magnetic pickup selector switch on my '95 Fly Deluxe is going bad. It causes the sound to get crackly & then cut out. If I soak it with DeOxit and work it some it comes back, but I don't dare use this (my main guitar!) live as I never know.
Does anyone have a source for a replacement switch that will fit & function? It is a non standard switch.

Hiya,

I reckon D'Marzio would be your best bet, they have a good selection of switches that'l work Fly's

DiMarzio part #: EP1111.

Not sure if that's what you need.

Have a search in the forum, there's a few threads on replacements switches around.

Cheers

I'll check on that DiMarzio switch.  Thanks.

I did a search using a few different word combos and came up empty on that particular switch.

I just checked what I could find on the DiMarzio EP1111 switch. It looks like it should work.

It is a 4 Pole, Double Throw switch. Can anyone confirm that this was the pre-refined Fly mag selector switch type?

Can't say for sure, but it appears to match the one in my '01 Deluxe:

Hiya,

Ok, just checked back over my old scribbles and notes...

Yes, the D'Marzio switch is an exact replacement.

Did it to my pre-refined several years ago, all well.

There are other brand switches that have the same function out there, i.e. 4PDT on-on-on, but just be sure the shaft length and width (i.e. the bit that goes through the body of the guitar) are the right size etc.

If you have no soldering experience, this is not a good first project!

The main challenge is is unsoldering the ribbon cable, go slow, be careful!

But it is perfectly do-able.

OK, good luck!

Ciao

Update- got the DiMarzio EP1111 switch installed & it works perfectly. If this one will last another 20 years I will be too old to play anymore!
I'm sure there are 4PDT switches out there that would work fine and cost half what the DiMarzio branded one did ($30) but knowing for sure what would work & fit was worth it.
