trem arm bushing broken
« on: December 23, 2015, 10:53:39 PM »
My Son's Parker PDF60's trem arm bushing broke yesterday into four pieces.. Darn..
I removed the set screw & pushed the remains out thru the front of the guitar..
Took the biggest piece to Home Depot along with my digi-caliper & came up with a almost perfect replacement, A nylon spacer...
It did require I drill the center slightly larger but being I have a giant full set of bits = No Problem, I got the hole within .001" of the trem arms size..
Installed & snugged the screw up & now it's better than new, My Son says it even sounds better when using the trem & is smoother..
Figured I'd share this with the forum being it will happen to you too, The plastic the bushing was made from is brittle & can easily break..
HD's Part # for the bushing is 595 285 & costs 77cents for a pair of them..
It might be white in color but that's really no problem..

Nice. Good to know.  I know the plastic arms break from time to time.

We have had this guitar for several months now & after seeing this have seen at least a half dozen or so other Parkers for sale with the broken bushing..
Nylon is self lubricating & can be compressed by the allen set screw without cracking unlike the factory unit.. I have an extra bushing & will never need it unless we get another Parker which is just what my Son plans to do with his tax check iF I can find a nice one at a decent price..

Being the trem on the Parkers has the bearings up above the top the trems action is much easier to use than say a Floyd Rose or Fender Style trem, It has more leverage & a smoother action because of the roller bearings, Even with two springs on each & .009"-.042" strings on ea. = GREAT DESIGN!

Saw a USA Nightfly @ GC last month & the action was the worst of just about any guitar I have ever seen BUT it SOLD?? Go Figure? Nice Looking guitar though = Taxi Yellow.. Which one of you all bought it? I'm sure the trem could have been lowered & truss rod adjusted properly.. It was setup like a $50 Pawn Shop special or the original owner didn't know how to adjust the bridges allen screws??

The part# I gave in post #1 was the # on the package but not the HD #, IIRC it was 3/8" X 1" but can't remember now what size drill bit I used but a quick measurement of the trem arm with digi calipers would give that.. Here's the bushing..

Isn't the answer already provided in the first post at the top of the page - and in the post directly above yours? Have you tried that?

I've had the tremolo bushings on both my PDF80 and PDF85 break.

I'm now in the process of making replacement bushings that look like the original but are machined out of black Nylon material that won't crack. I've been testing the prototypes for several months and they're performing very well.

It's all there if you look around.

I see lots of great stuff and ways to buy other products but not a way to add these bushings to a cart. Ordering info is a blank page. Could be an iPhone thing.
