DF824 pickup suggestions for metal
« on: April 01, 2016, 07:52:51 PM »
Hey all! I have a DF824 on the way. Has anyone had experience with a Seymour Duncan Invader or Bare Knuckle War pig in the bridge?
I have the stock Duncan Custom 5 in my DF624 put finding it a little tame since I'm looking for a thick, heavy tone.
Any other PU suggestions would be great!

Cheers

have you tried an EQ pedal?  I have a 7 string that is amazing for metal and a fly classic that doesn't have your "typical" metal tone, but one that I dig.  I am eq'ing and it helps.

I'm using a Kemper so I will try the built in boast or eg.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Try using just the piezo through your pedals with some eq.
I was shocked at what I could get out of a stock PDF105.

Just a suggestion, but a money saving one!

In my Pdf60 I had a Dimarzio EVO in the bridge and a Duncan jb in the neck. Split-coils in the Jb ALMOST gave me what I wanted, but the stock df824 pickups are crunchy enough for me, I just need to overload them a bit and eq up the low end. YMMV, but I hope this helps.

I'm a fan of all pickups made by Lace. Jeff is a really cool guy. I've spent at least $1500 over the last year or so on Lace pups.
