USM Pickups in a DF842LG?
« on: August 09, 2016, 11:18:41 PM »
So one of the guitar players in a band for whom I play bass recently acquired a Parker LG that looks *mostly* like the DF842 I see in the catalog (dual humbucker, piezo system, three control knobs on the front), but has the "USM" labeled pickups. Are the Duncan Jazz and JB p'ups labeled thus? He's a notorious horsetrader and I'm trying to pin down the model to be sure that I'd like to help "keep it in the family."

How easy is it to get a different colored Parker painted Lime Gold?

(yes, this is keeping me up nights)

Thanks!

That's likely a PDF85. An imported bolt-on neck version that's pretty nice, though without the steel frets, Sperzel tuners, and USA Duncans.

The pickups are imported Duncan HB102s (basically "Duncan Designed") versions of the JB and Jazz models. Many say they don't sound as good. IMO they sound great - if you like those particular pickups.

Paint job will cost more than what he paid for the guitar

I can't find LG on a PDF85 anywhere and I've been researching for hours.

If according to
http://forums.parkerguitars.com/index.php/topic,14918.msg133537.html#msg133537

, perhaps there might have been a $700 upcharge (maybe less if it was ordered new and therefore didn't have the disassembling and stripping labor). That would have made the guitar still less expensive than a Mojo (or whatever higher end actually came in LG). What's that worth toward the pre-owned value of the guitar? Is it like a swimming pool at a home for sale (it's nice to have but doesn't really add value to the property)?

(I know: what's it worth to me, if I want the guitar...)

A picture would help us then. It already has a green headstock?

Plenty of photos ;)

He decided to place it on Reverb "just to see what would happen"

I played it before one of our gigs and it plays—and sounds—like a dream!

Confirmed: a local connection—who has painted at least a half dozen Parkers—got the number and painted it for my guitar player.

Now I'm curious as to how close his is to a "real" Lime Gold ;)
