Mag/Piezo switch and/or Mag tone push pull not working
« on: October 01, 2016, 05:38:19 PM »
Hey guys,
I just got my Fly Mojo Flame from my parent's house after a few years and started playing it. Sometimes when playing the guitar will just go dead or very quiet. I have narrowed it down to the selector switch for the mag/piezo pickups and the push-pull coil tap. If I toggle the switch, or push and/or pull the enough times, I will get a normal signal again, but then if I switch positions...same problem. Has anyone ever encountered this before? Any ideas? Help! Thanks in advance...

Well, at a guess, if it's been sitting in storage for a few years i'd say...corrossion!

Might be the contacts in the switches have corroded a little, or something's grown on them, all that stuff that happens when you leave electrical things alone too long.

First course of action would be to spray some contact cleaner into the switches, wiggle them around a little, see if that helps.

It's hopeless.  You should send it to me.  I'll get it off your hands for the price of shipping!  ;)

I'll look into the contact cleaner spray. I did open it up and poke around in the electronics with a toothpick to make sure all connections were good and nothing came unsoldered. I also checked for corrosion and didn't see anything alarming. Fired her back up and she seemed to play normal, but that worries me more...

Spray it, spray the crap out of it!

I have a 94 with ribbon cables, same sort of thing started happening.

After much (much) investigation, turned out to be a little oxidisation on the ribbon contacts themselves. A spray and wipe solved everything!

Spray it.

Oxidisation i say!

All will be well..
