Even the forum is going away
« on: April 23, 2017, 07:33:04 PM »
Sad to see Parker bite the dust, and now even the forum is waning. So sad.

If I would have known how quickly the stock would have dried up, I would have bought another light weight DF -- I know all the warning signs were there, but I misread the speed in which it would die.

Hopefully my 2 DF guitars will last many, many years.

And if I can find another that is about 5 pounds and in nice shape, I might get it for my wife.

I see no evidence that the forum is going away. Actually, I'm surprised at the relatively steady influx of new members. However, yes, several of the veteran members have gone silent in the meantime.

Parker is still posting on Facebook with reasonable frequency, and the re-launch promise is still on the Parker web site, so I'm hopeful that something good will happen. Posting on social media would be the last thing on their minds if they were intending to close the business, but if they are going to bring the brand back it makes perfect sense to do it. And even if the new products are not at the level some people want, they will likely bring new players to the brand and the forum. Fingers crossed not long now.

In my case, it just coincides with very little desire to play the guitar anymore. Too many years of beating my head against the wall I guess.

Paul it is good to see you post - I am always interested in your perspective.

I've certainly had my frustrations with guitar, but when things are bad I just play for myself. Explore, find things that are new, that perhaps no one has ever heard that way exactly before. And know then that this is what makes you unique.

We are a community bound by a guitar brand, from all over the world, with different backgrounds, skills, interests, and day jobs (see a different thread). Following this we get different perspectives on life, the universe, and everything*. I enjoy seeing posts by Notes - gigging in a duo in south Florida, how cool is that? Dayn Warren, a pastor in the northwest. You, in Las Vegas, dealing with the economic meltdown that happened there. I'm a medical school department chair. What a cool, valuable asset this is to us all.

Thanks Jamie,

I hope I was just being pessimistic the other day.

I'm trying to find a nice 524DF for my duo partner. She loves her PM10, but likes my lighter DF even better. So I had plans of getting her one for our anniversary, and they are nowhere to be found. Sweetwater, GC, Music 123, Sam Ash don't even have old stock to sell.

I'm not the world's best guitarist by any stretch of the imagination. I get by OK though. My main instrument is sax/wind synthesizer. I also play bass, drums and keys, though not in our duo. At least in real time as I make my own backing tracks.

Leilani plays rhythm guitar and synth on stage.

That means we both switch instruments frequently. A 5 pound guitar is a blessing.

Add to that the tuning stability, balance, and ease of playing, it is a tool that makes the job of expressing ourselves to entertain the audience easier. And when the use of the tools are easier, the music comes out better.

I found a couple on ebay but they were upscale models and more than I can justify right now.

I enjoy riding my bicycle more these days than playing the guitar. Most of what I have ever done on guitar has "been for myself", but it got real old being a Dead Sea of creativity after playing guitar for like 30 years and it never going anywhere. I still like to play my guitar, but it's not like the main focus of my life anymore, probably won't ever be again. Speaking of the meltdown... I am STILL about $80K upside down on my house, I'll likely never get out of it unless I just walk away, which is something I refused to do back in 2009 for the kid's sake. Now that I have my credit in the 800s again walking away is not really something I want to do. "When life gives you a pile of crap".... not sure what you're supposed to do with that.  ???

Thanks (The purple us ugly but the green is OK).

I'd give her my Natural Satin, and I'd take the colored one, as all I use my custom build on stage, and the regular 524 at home for practice.

I've offered it to her, and now it's up to her.

I know they had mixed reviews initially but the PDF series was great for the $$.

I set up a PDF60 for a friend and I thought it was fantastic for a $500 guitar. And he bought it as a blem for $200.

I might get one myself sometime.

The PDFs look good, and priced well.

I let Leilani use the DF on the gig, and although it's lighter than her PM10, it doesn't fit here body as well. The PM10 is a smaller guitar and she's a small girl.

So for now, the issue is solved.

Notes

There is a new guy in the forum who is a professional car painter, he did an awesome silver burst on his guitar. He might be keen on changing the color. But he doesn't have the silk screen and such for the head stock and fret markers

I have guitars, most are beyond my playing level, but I love them all!
