What is my Fly worth?
« on: May 07, 2017, 08:09:41 PM »
I took my single cut mojo fly prototype in to good old Sam Ash today, just to see how much of a "deal" I would get. $500 cash $650 trade, based on 50% of what ebay guitars are going for, is what the guy told me.

So wow, is all I can say! Anyways gents and gals, take care
I have guitars, most are beyond my playing level, but I love them all!

Those seem to be average low ball numbers for what retail buyers will pay (pawn shops, Sam Ash, and guitar center) since they know most people selling to them are desperate for money, somewhat ignorant of the worth of an item, or unwilling to take the time to sell through CL or eBay or Reverb. Private sales are the best deal for everyone I think.
Rarely have I ever gotten a reasonable offer from musicgoround or other music specific pawn shops in my area.

Buddy of mine works at a pawn shop. They don't give you anything for your stuff.  He's a musician and yet he still can't give much for music gear. Pretty much like $40 for anything. That's it. And they have to upload photos of the purchased item into a police database every day. Then they have to wait 30 days to put it up for sale. In the meantime the cops can come in and take back any stolen items and the pawn shop is out that money. That is probably why they don't pay much

What? It's not glamorous, with calling in buddies to give expert opinions on the value of an item like on Pawn Stars?  :)

I know! I was expecting a call in, an expert, Maybe Ken Parker popping in:)

Here in Texas you can't do anything at a Pawn Shop without a drivers license so if the stuff you trade in is stolen, then they got ya. So Pawn Shops give a decent price here.

I was more so just curious as to what they'd give me, it beat walking around the fabric store with the lady and kids.

I knew I'd get low balled, but $500, he gave a kid trading in a small 2watt orange amp $100. I think he had no idea what a Parker was. Especially if ebay was his price checker.
