What is this?
« on: August 11, 2017, 06:58:08 AM »
Can someone tell me what I have here exactly? I mean I know by looking up the model number that it's a 94 Parker fly deluxe (I think) and I also know that it's been through hell..torn apart put back together.. sanded..painted... But is it worth anything? Is that the exact model? Is it worth fixing? I am learning how to play now..have been for the past maybe 5 months or so. I absolutely love the feel of this guitar. I want to fix it. What should I do??
PS I'm hoping that I'm able to figure out how to post pics on this forum because I don't see the option

Thanks in advance

Looks like a punkized '95 Deluxe.

Any chance of posting an in-focus picture?

And with the guitar outside of its case? It looks like the upper horn has been hacked in some disturbing way.

"disturbing" ... what a great choice of words for this.

I'll chime in the classic thrash metal guitar mod suggestion.
Is it worth fixing? probably not to bring it back to as new etc, but if it plays well, stays in tune and if it suits your style keep it. It's been hacked already, maybe it needs a little reworking and a better paint scheme.
I wonder what the carbon fiber looks like?
If there are no functional problems and the cosmetic issues don't matter pay as little as possible.

Not having played it, personally I wouldn't be comfortable paying more than $500 because of the modification but I'm a cheap suspicious guitar player/buyer.
If it's a genuine Hiscox case in good shape that's worth $150-200 on CL all day long.

Also look in the cavity and make sure original ribbon cables are there.
The mods might have included the wiring too.

Post some clear pictures and the forum will work miracles or at least have a new topic to go on about!
Cheers!

Worth fixing - what's broken? They did something horrid to the upper horn which has us aghast, but other than that obvious cosmetic I would wonder if that part changed the stability of the guitar. The "carbon fiber exoskeleton" of a Parker is part of why it can be so thin and light and yet sound great.

So depends on what is broken, and I would look VERY carefully. One wonders about a guitar that started off at, what, $3K being treated like that. Hey, I think I will make my new Les Paul a double cutaway!

I'm almost certain it is NOT a Hiscox case.  Those have a wider area around the neck and headstock.
Which brings me to my audacious claim of the day:
I HAVE SOLVED THE MYSTERY OF THE MODIFIED UPPER HORN !
The owner of this Deluxe must have trimmed down the horn in order to fit it into a standard Strat-type case.  Oh the humanity !
If you look closely at the photo, you'll see that the modified tip of the horn just barely touches the inner case.  Also, notice the area trimmed away from the horn would have run into the cavity shaped for a Strat horn.
That's my theory (until dis-proven....at which time I will delete this post and deny having made such audacious claim) :)

Sounds reasonable, the CF must have suffered greatly.

I got this guitar for my birthday from someone, they got it from someone else. Please don't be mean about my guitar:( it's my very first one and I've been learning how to play it. I absolutely love it. It's really light and it's totally me. I would like to fix it but I don't know if it's fixable. I think someone somehow broke that piece off and tried to glue it back together or something and ended up sanding it way to small. Here's some better pics. Thanks for all the replies. It's very much appreciated.

Oh and that's the case someone gave it to me in... It's a fender case. I have this girl who says she's a carpenter and could fix that... Should I let her even touch it??

Well, your first guitar is much better than my first guitar was, a little over 50 years ago!

What exactly do you want to 'fix'? Is something not working?

You should just leave the hacked and broken upper horn alone. It looks sad, but that shouldn't affect functionality very much.

I just think it looks crappy and someone "tweaked" on the electrical parts.. when I plug it in it does nothing.. but the pieces are all detached and it's all discombobulated

And I mean, I really hope someone didn't mess up a beautiful guitar to make it fit a case that wasn't made for it..
