WTB Parker Nylon Fly
« on: February 20, 2018, 06:08:42 PM »
Hello All,

Can't believe I've been absent from here for nearly 10 years...
Where does the time go?

This is probably a big ask but I would like to find a good clean Nylon (Spanish) Fly in the UK if possible.
They were always quite rare so it may take a lot of searching.

I'm still playing and enjoying my faithful old Fly Classic but would appreciate a change of style.

All the best

Andre

I wouldn't be surprised if there were literally 0 Nylon/Spanish Flys in the UK: I have been looking, and they seem scarce even within the whole of Europe!
The one thing that concerns me is that the break angle at the nut may be rather slight for nylon strings.

I do have the last few of the Nylon Fly preamp PCBs from the factory clearout, some populated and some empty...just in case one comes up that needs attention.
There are other pickup options, though, including hexaphonic output. Since the bridge is a unit which screws in, it would even be feasible to make a replacement designed for RMC or Graphtech saddles!

Hello Chris,

Having just returned to the Forum after many years of absence, I was not aware of your interest in the same.
Should have done a search on the subject before posting.

I've just watched (30 mins ago) a celebration of The Old Grey Whistle Test TV program - 40 years on; (That dates me).

Kiki Dee was performing with Carmelo Luggeri playing a Spanish Fly. First time I've seen one in a Pro setting.
Sounded great. I'll try to post a screen shot if I can figure out how to do it!

Andre

I recorded that, and shall be watching with extra interest later, then! Whistle Test was before my time, but I’ve seen clips before, and have heard so much about it through listening to Bob Harris.

To be honest, I can’t remember when I last saw anyone playing any Fly variant on TV!?

There were quite a few shows where Vernon Reid played his Parker on TV, but I don't think anyone noticed.

The first time I ever saw a Parker guitar (at all!) was Reeves Gabrels playing with David Bowie on SNL in 1997. I was 13 and I was awestruck!

I don’t remember seeing one on T.V. since.

Anyway, good luck with the Nylon Fly search!

Andre, that was the Bronze/Concert Fly that Carmelo Luggeri was playing.

There are a few more of those around. It uses the same bridge as the other hardtail Flys.
Good sound in that studio, though: not quite the resonance of the real acoustic played in the first song, but a different flavour for the capo tuning and more upbeat style of the second.

Chris,
Typical of me impulsive - just see what you expect, without looking at the detail:

I was so surprised to see Kiki live doing the 1st set and then Carmelo picked up a Parker for the 2nd number.
Well I was just in-thrall as you might say...

Here's a clip to view:

and perhaps you'll see why I'm a fan.

Then see this:

Only just found this one, seems Carmelo always uses the Parker for 'Amoureuse'

Great sound from a really talented pair.
