2005 Fly CLassic: Question about Piezo switch
« on: April 04, 2018, 10:55:20 PM »
Just picked up 2005 Classic (previously had a mid-90's Fly Deluxe)

On the Piezo Pup Switch:
position 1 (all the way to right, when looking down at the guitar) is Full Piezo.
position 2 (middle toggle) is a blend of mags & piezo
position 3 (all the way to left, when looking down at the guitar) is full mags.

When I'm in position 3, and I turn up the Piezo volume it is still blended with the mags. How is this possible? All other positions work as advertised except position three. Is there an issue?

Hi there,

I had this issue on one of my guitars. The toggle switches on refined Flys (yours) sometimes have this issue. You can just replace them and you’ll be good to go!

I ordered mine from Allied Electronic:

Magnetic Pickup selector:

Electroswitch Inc.
Switch, Toggle; Mini; DPDT; On-On-On; .687 Large Bat; 15/32 Dia.; 6A; 125VAC;
#70152137

Mag/Piezo selector:

Electroswitch Inc.
Switch, Toggle; Mini; DPDT; On-Off-On; .468 Large; 15/32 Dia.; 6A; 125VAC;
#70152134

Good luck!

Hi just checking, why is this one On-Off-On? On my late model Parkers both mag and piezo switches are identical: On-On-On.

I've had to replace them all for the same reason as the OP, and On-On-On switches work as they should with the blend in the middle for the piezo, or blended humbuckers for the mag switch.

I believe the "off" is actually the ground that is passed to the preamp to turn on the different selectors. I can't find the original post that would verify that information. I do have this switch in the mag/piezo selector slot of my 2008 Fly Mojo and it works as you'd expect. Maybe that switch is no longer necessary on newer Flys? Maybe it only applied to the Fishman-style preamps?

Paul Marossy had a guide called "Upgrading The Pickup Switches On My Parker Nitefly Mojo", which, though for a NiteFly, explains the process a bit. I couldn't find the article when I originally replied to the OP because his site http://diyguitarist.com/ appears to be offline. I did locate it through WayBackTimeMachine a while ago and saved a local copy; I'm copied the article here so you can see.
