Question about DF 1024
« on: September 26, 2018, 11:21:11 AM »
Dear All,
I'm from France and I will probably bought a PARKER DF 1024 which is the year 2018.
The US factory is closed in 2015, I would like to know where this guitar was made? US or Asia ?
The seller says it's a made in US???
What do you think of this guitar compared to a FLY MOJO summer 2008 ?
What do you think of his sleeve compared to a sleeve of a 1995 PARKER classic or FLY MOJO summer 2008 ?
Sorry for my English and thank you for your help.
Cheers
Alain

The DF models reportedly were made in the US. The PDF models were made in Asia.

I personally would prefer the earlier Fly.

What is a sleeve? Are you asking about a guitar case or gig bag?

DF1024 - I think it's beautiful, though if I remember correctly, it is a bolt on without the carbon fiber back.  I can't imagine that it is not a fantastic guitar, and I hope you can get a good price.  There must be a mistake on the date unless there's something coming out of the factory this year.  Get lots of pictures and post if you can.  We may be able to spot things ahead of time.

The fly mojo summer is also beautiful, though some of the limited run seasons models had a few small issues.  Again, post pictures if you can.

I can't speak to the sleeve question, I assume you mean the gig bag.  I personally love the original fly gig bags.

Why do you say "reportedly made in the US"?  I personally saw DFs and flys being made in the factory in march or april 2011, including Patzag's black ash custom DF and Nef's toxic DF just before it shipped.  I also saw two guitars in process for Vernon Reid and one for Martone.  (I'm not trying to argue, it just seems like an odd way to phrase things?)

The pdf series were made in at least two different factories in asia.

Because at my age, unless I'm absolutely 100% certain about something that I seem to remember but can't immediately prove by pointing to a reference, there's always a chance that what I think I know is wrong.

The DF models were made in the USA.  I saw the production line myself so I can attest to that.  I also had 2 custom models made for me.

Thanks for your reply.

Sleeve is a wrong term, I wanted to say NECK.

Does the 1024 neck will be as well as the Fly Classic ?

very cool, love at first sight!

I think the neck has the stainless frets and the carbon fiber fingerboard, so it should be very comparable to the standard fly necks.  I don't think the back of the neck is carbon fiber though.

do you have pictures of the actual guitar?  This looks like a marketing image from the catalog.

It'd be great to see pictures of the side of the neck, and the bridge and posts.  These are the most likely places where there would be an issue.

I can see them. There are no close-ups, but the guitar appears to be in good condition.

Oooh!
I want one of those! They made that one and the Koa one with a carbon fiber fretboard and cocobolo neck? I think that's right. I don't know how they handled the fretboard but it looks great. I'd love to be able to touch one, but we can all live vicariously through you.

wow, +1!

That guitar looks great, it almost looks unplayed.  Hard to see from the images but I don't notice any problems like a ragged fretboard edge or leaning/off center bridge posts.
