Any plans for a six string model?
« on: March 10, 2005, 08:54:56 AM »
I, myself being a guitar player, would be very happy with the five string, and only play bass for writing and recording purposes. My bass player loves your basses, but he is firmly rooted in the six string world, so is looking at other options. Since I loved my '98 Classic so much I thought I would try out a Fly bass. I love 'em, very nice, can't rave about them enough. If you make a six, I might buy him one for Christmas...hehe
'97 Fly Classic with Steve's Special/Air Norton
'05 Mojo Flame (Green) with SD Distortion/Jazz
'03 Parker 5-String (Natural) Duncan AJB-5s
'89 Hamer with Sustainiac
'95 Ovation Standard Elite (Green Burst)
'98 Ovation Balladeer (Red burst)
PRS Custom 24
Fender American Deluxe Strat
a bunch of Jacksons
a bunch of Charvels
a bunch of Peaveys (Vandenbergs)
Mesa RoadKing II
Mesa Mark IV Long Head
Mesa Stiletto Deuce II
Mesa F-30
Mesa 4x12
Peavey Triple X 2x12
Peavey 4x12 with two V30s and 2 G12T 75s
SWR Bass 750 with Mesa 4x10 and 1x15
Mesa Bass 400+
...and a bunch of other stuff

I have never had the pleasure of playing a Parker bass, hopefully will soon though... I take it they are really light in weight just like the guitars are?

NathanO.com - Coming soon!

Regards,

Nathan

Nathan, the basses are just as amazing as the guitars, though they sound a little more like traditional basses, than the guitars sounding like traditional guitars. The best part of all Parkers high end stuff is the even response (guitar or bass). There aren't any noticeable resonance peaks on the fret board. Example: my Ibanez SR500 bass (decent for the money), tends to have a bit of a volume swell whe playing A 440 when open or fretted and sounds louder than other notes or has more low end/low mid. Parkers don't do that, I have had quite a few nice instruments over the years. The better they are the less odd ball resonance there. When playing bass its even more important. Just pick up any old bass and record it on anything available, make sure to play the few problem notes. Granted compression, EQ, etc. in the mix will "fix" most of it, but Parker basses just sound better naturally, so you can use less compression which sounds better - still have to able to play well though. Try one when you get a chance.

Hi John,

I take it that there are also no plans for 7, 8, and 9 string extended range bass models either?  Ha ha! :)

Hi Jay!  Welcome aboard.  I knew you find your way here sooner than later.  I am glad to see you did - you are a welcome addition to the forum.

I'd love to offer everything - 6 string basses, fretless basses, you name it.  But, we are so swamped building what is already on order that I can't imagine introducing any new products - maybe some upgrades...

John

Hello again John!!  You know me, I stand passionately behind all the gear that works best for my compositions.

Plus, these Parkers can take such a beating!!  In three years of hyper-aggressive playing, I have not broken one string (keeping in mind that I am using all sorts of unusual tunings).  And just this morning, my Neotech strap broke and the bass dropped right out of my lap, onto the floor.  It landed on the rug, bounced, and then was ready to record again.  I imagine that between the 12 layers of acoustic guitar top grade Sitka Spruce, PAF, that Ken Parker snuck in some industry-grade rubber somewhere in the mix to prevent such scenarios!  :)

Cheers,

Jay

There is one in existence, though. I have pictures of it (and because I have no website, I cannot post them here).

Oh yeah, that's my good pal Al Caldwell's old fretless 6 string (1983):
