Guitarist: Bob Martin

Band: none, for this track

Music Syle: Country/Jazz?Rock

Guitar(s): Parker Deluxe (I think it was a 1997)

Pups: Gen 1

Amp/boxes/rig: Zoom 9002 direct

Method recorded: Direct into Cubase

One sentence comment: Here's something I did on my own, with a country flavor. The acoustic is a Steve Klein M-43 Oval Hole. The steel-sounding licks are a Steinberger Spirit and the lead melody parts when they kick in are my old Black Fly Deluxe (sorry, I don't remember the year) recorded through a Zoom 9002 (comes in at 2:23 into the song) as is the lead when it happens. This was recorded in the late 90s. Please note that by clicking on the link, the download will begin right away.

Guitarist: Bob Martin

Band: none, for this track

Music Syle: Spacey Weird Jazzy Stuff

Guitar(s): Parker Fly Artist 2000

Pups: Gen 2

Amp/boxes/rig: Korg Pandora PX4R 4-track

Method recorded: Direct onto Pandora

One sentence comment: It's 3 tracks of Fly Artist (Gen 2 pups) and one track of Asbory Bass. Recorded directly to a Korg PX4R 4-track Pandora palm-sized recorder. Pretty abstract, but sums up how I felt about what I was watching on TV in March 2003

Band: none, for this track

Music Syle: Holiday Music

Guitar(s): Parker Fly Artist 2000

Pups: Gen 2

Amp/boxes/rig: Line6 TonePort

Method recorded: Direct into Logic Express on a Mac

One sentence comment: every year, since 1999, I record a song for the Christmas holidays that I send to family, friends, clients and colleagues. For 2005 it was Little Drummer Boy. This is all my Fly Artist (Gen 2 pups), with a Taylor Bass. Guitar tracks here are through the Line6 TonePort (the cheaper one). I now think that the compression is a little thick on the lead voice.

CAUTION>WICKED LONG DOWNLOAD - THIS SONG IS 18 MINUTES

Guitarist: Bob Martin

Band: None on this cut. From my solo CD

Music Syle: Spacey Jazzy Soundtracky Stuff

Guitar(s): Black Fly Deluxe (year unknown), but pre 1999

Pups: Gen 1

Amp/boxes/rig: Zoom 9002

Method recorded: Directly into Cubase

One sentence comment: this is the title song of my first CD 11:11 (no, I am not the Bob Martin folk singer guy who released an album called Working Man). This is called eleven eleven. The song is about 18 minutes long, and this has my old black Fly Deluxe all over it. It doubles the acoustic guitar riff that sets the whole song up. It's the lead instrument. It handles background washes. The synth parts are a GK2A affixed to my old Steinberger Spirit. The internal kit that I have on my Deluxe now does a MUCH better job tracking. The synth was my old Roland GR-09. The bass was a newer Danelectro Longhorn 4-string. This is 22 tracks layered with loops, etc recorded in Cubase straight to a variety of Macs over time. Part of a collection intended for yoga instructors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, chiropractors, etc. Very mellow. Remember, this is 18 minutes of download. Good new is, if you can't sleep at night, listen to this... you will be able to. OK, I am clearly exceeding the one-sentence rule, but some of this stuff just takes more explanating...

Sorry for breaking format here, but this is a different kind of clip.

I've been following the Mama Bear, and have seen and heard some great clips of it. I'd love to get my hands on one and have at it.

In the mean time, I decided to post some clips of me playing my Fly Artist (piezo-only, tone-neutral position) through the Korg Pandora PX4A. I went direct from the output of the Pandora into the input on my Macbook computer, and recorded into Garageband. Exported it as an AIFF file, an converted it to MP3 in iTunes. Also, any processing is in the Korg presets - I added none.

This is one verse from the Beatles' I've Just Seen A Face repeated for each of the PX4A's sounds. I chose this as it has both flatpicking and strumming.

MY PLAYING IS VERY CRUDE HERE! Please excuse the sloppy playing, but I didn't want it to turn into an entire day of recording.

These are all stock sounds from the Korg Pandora PX4 A. I suspect that with some tweaking, these could be passable in live performance or recording, mixed in with other instruments in a more complex arrangement. As solo acoustic guitar sounds... I don't know. They'd take some work.

I have not used this on any of the other recordings I posted. All acoustic guitar on those is an actual acoustic guitar - a Klein M43 Oval Hole with a Highlander mic/undersaddle pickup.

Here are the sounds in the order they appear on the test recording.
1. Piezo Direct
2. Eric Clapton 000
3.J160 Tweaked to be Beatles setting
4. National Steel Guitar
5. Small Body 12-String (No Brand indicated)
6. Condenser mic on Dreadnought (no brand indicated)
7. Martin Dreadnought
8. Gibson L00
9. Taylor Dreadnought
10. Gibson Jumbo
11. Martin 00
12. Ben Harper's Weissenborn
13. Ben Harper's National Resophonic

And here is the link:

http://homepage.mac.com/uburoi/.cv/uburoi/Sites/.Public/BobMartin_Parker_PX4A%20Test.mp3-zip.zip

Most places sell this for $169, but I found it locally for $129. I think that this makes a pretty stunning "poor man's Mama Bear", and think that it makes a huge difference between your Piezo and your amp.

Please let me know what you think.

Bob
