Hey Portnoy,

Very cool. If I may make one suggestion, it would be to reduce the file size, as a 536K file is a long download for a banner ad. You can take it into Photoshop/Imageready and tweak it to reduce the color palette, etc. If you got it down below 100K, that would be good. Most web sites would want it under 50k. Design-wise, very nice!

kavan, thats a really cool banner![:)]  I know that must have been a lot of hours/work and its great just the way it is ...but

If you were up for tweaking it a bit...

To me the most erotic (?) or artistic photo shot of the Fly is from an oblique angle from mostly the side but with slightly more underbelly rotation that shows the thinness of the instrument with a hint of the wedge shape of the lower edgae and the concave underside.

If you could add a pic showing off that angle (mostly thinness) it would better capture the Artistic side of the Fly (IMMHO)

Anyway, awesome banner as is--b

Ahem... uh, erotic? Does it make you aroused?! [:D]

Seriousy, when that file size gets reduced small enough, I want to stick that banner on my website somewhere. [8D]

I am basically still a Neanderthal. Anything thin in the middle and curved on each end does it for me...[:D]

i am currently trying to find out how i adjust the colour palette so it is a smaller file size. so ill re-upload it as soon as i have done so.

also when i get my New parker fly Deluxe i shall take a multiple set of photos, edit them in photoshop, Arrange them with effects and everything in Imovie and then Do all the stuff in photoshop/imageready and ill upload that also, but itll be a little while still, ordering my first Parker in 2 weeks, gotta pay for it over 3 months before i can take it :-( but itll be worth the wait!

6 years i have wanted a parker fly, its my dream guitar and it looks like its finally going to come to a reality!

Portnoy, my wife is a graphic designer for a marketing agency and uses these same programs in her work.

Here's how you optimize this in Photoshop: 1st: Image resolution needs to be set to 72. 2nd: optimize image by clicking on file tab, then save for web. 3rd: in the pop-up window choose 4-up tab. 5th: after choosing 4-up tab, set quality setting around 50 to 60, that is a common setting for web use (others may look good enough for you) set the quality that's best for you. 6th choose one of the 4 images. 7th: Hit the save button.

Note: As you change the quality settings, in the lower left hand corner of each of the 4 images, you'll be able to see the size of the file change as you change your settings.

Goodluck! [^]

thanks for that jamrcat,

 ive attempted it also, only problem it becomes a still frame, so i will play about with it some more and upload the Results

on another note, i have Got it down to about 160kb last night, i may be able to load it up onto a server of some description and you could proberbly hotlink it so you wouldnt have to upload it onto your own server

thanks again

Hey Portnoy,

What Jamrcat says to do in Photoshop, you can try in Image Ready, which will keep it animated. U would recommend experimenting with dropping some of the frames, reducing the color palette, and optimizing to a specific file size. It will always be a tradeoff.

A banner like this, with full motion video, can be kept down in file size by doing it in Flash, although many of the sites that would want to run it might not support a Flash file.

Again, great work!

thanks again to everyone,

i have uploaded the 168k version to imageshack and have got a html code written for it in Dreamweaver,

the code is,

<html>
<head>
<title>mojobanner95k</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
</head>
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">
<!-- ImageReady Slices (mojobanner95k.gif) -->
<a href="http://www.parkerguitars.com" target="_blank">
        <img src="http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/8612/mojobanner95kkw8.gif" width="415" height="120" border="0" alt=""></a>
<!-- End ImageReady Slices -->
</body>
</html>

so if you use that html codeing, does that use up the Bandwith that you are assigned for your websites?

in the meantime ill have a play about a bit more in imageready, as you suggested uburoibob ill try creating a flash file for it and maybe cut the frames down to a minimum, but still showing the beauty of the guitar

AFAIK, if you linked to an outside source (not your own server), then it doesn't really use up your own server's bandwidth at all. [8D]
