Glaswerks and Parker hmmm good...
« on: August 22, 2006, 10:05:03 PM »
Hey I finally got an amp designed around the Dumble architecture. It comes from a very small new manufacturer from Arizona called Glaswerks. I ordered this unheard as it is part of the very first ever batch. It isn't exactly a clone because it combines the best of Dumble amps from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. It is a bit overwhelming the sound is amazing and there are so many sounds that sound good it is easy to get lost. Mine is a 100 watt version with NOS tubes, reverb and a loop. There is a foot switch with mid boost, over all boost, and overdrive channel. Anyway here is a picture just to wet the appetite.

Vox has a Trademark for that grill on a guitar amp so I had to put the grill cloth on both the amp and cab myself. Dumble used that grill cloth before the Vox got trademark. I just like the way it looks plus for those that know it gives added clues to the amps heritage.

Thanks Bill Photography was something I studied years ago. That was a rush job after work and before dinner with my kid telling me he's hungry [B)] Of the 7 shots only two were even usable as they were all more or less blurry. I should be using the self timer to fire the camera with these long exposure dim lit shots but instead I try using my finger which just shake the camera.

Congrats on the new amp! I listened to some of the clips from Glaswerks site, reminds me of the Mesa F-Series. They don't have any prices posted, what are they charging?

I would rather not say. Just email Gary let him quote you a price. I can't be sure that he didn't loose his pants making that first batch of amps. I know it took longer then he first estimated. I knew it was a gamble putting money down but part of that gamble was knowing that the price I was quoted was very cool considering what amps like these generally run. Just check Two Rock as an example. I had an amp builder over last week he builds a Dumble clone and charges double what I paid and he said this amps sounded outstanding and that it was a terrific deal.

I figured something like that and I wouldn't want to put anyone in an awkward position...what's the ball park $500+, $1000+, $2000+, $3000+, etc.? Its not my style of amp, but I am curious what kind of prices are involved with small builders. Two Rock looks to be in the Bogner range, maybe a little higher for some models.

In fact, how's this? Was it...

Peavey price range?
Mesa price range?
Bogner price range?

I got mine between 2k and 3k.[;)]
Most Two Rocks are between 3k and 6k.
Sounds like it is worth every penny.

Nice Alex!  I don't know if you have heard of Scott Lerner, but he's a friend of mine in Jersey.  He has a custom Glaswerks that he modded himself (I don't know if he did work for Gary as well, I'd have to ask him?) and it sounds AMAZING!  The 90's voicing is incredible, I loved it when I played my PRS through it.  I might be going over there to work out an amp/cab trade soon so when I do, I'll be bringing my Nitefly-M to try out through the Glaswerks... be it will sound KILLER! I know Scott aka Dogears from both the The Gear Page and the Amp Garage forums. By all means ask him but he has stated in these forums that Gary sent him a prototype of the SOD amp some time ago and then he cooperated with Gary to tweak the amp that Gary finally built for sale. Scott is the first person that Gary thanks in the opening of the manual for his help in "extensive tweaking, circuit modification tester and a lot of "what ifs"". Scott being the tweaker he is probably has done even more tweaks but he has said he was pretty darn happy with the sound he got from the SOD. Everyday it blows me away just an amazing sound. But like I said I still have a lot to learn about it.

So it was upper Mesa, lower Bogner range...that isn't unreasonable. I wonder how it does compared to the Fuchs? After you have settled in with it a bit more, you'll have to give us a detailed review. Thanks for the info.
