Neck Size website issues
« on: May 20, 2005, 08:46:09 AM »
I found another mistake on the web site. The specifications on the Singlecut are wrong.
Nut = 1.68", String spacing at nut = 1.38" for the SC
Nut = 1.68", String spacing at nut = 1.43" for the Classic
My guess is that the nut width is wrong it should read 1.625"

What is worse is I won't buy a 1.625 regular/fat neck on a SC. I want a wide/fat 1.68" and you don't offer that. Neck size issues are a frequently repeated complaint about Parker Fly models mostly that they are too thin. The SC more then any other model should at least offer a wide fat neck as that is much more likely what the traditionally orientated player would be looking for in a single cut guitar. [:(]

The neck on the SC is based on the NITEFLY neck not the Fly neck.  Notice that the SC has 22 frets unlike the Fly which has 24.  The goal was a wider/fatter neck with 22 frets specifically to target the more traditional player as you stated above.

Great I would love to be wrong so what is with the website? The Nitefly neck is narrower then the Fly neck but a little thicker. It looks to be based on a Strat model. The Fly is wide and relatively thin. If you look at the dimensions which were copied from your web site you will see the discrepancy. The nut should not be the same width and string spacing narrow.

Is the SC neck the same as a Nitefly or wider?

I want the width of the Fly and the thickness of the Nitefly.

Almost every LP style guitar has a nut width of 1.687 and a string spacing of 1.43" so which is correct[?]

The website is correct.  The SC neck is based off the NiteFly neck.

Sorry John the web site is not correct go measure the neck yourself it does NOT measure 1.68" it measures or at least mine does measure 1.63".

That simply isn't the same that is the difference between a Strat neck and Gibson neck.

Which Nitefly? the Mojo Flame has different specifications then the SA, Southern and Mojo? On the website. Go look I just did.

Look if you would rather talk or email off the forum email me.

The NiteFly nut width is 1.68" as is the nut width on the SC.

Maybe I don't understand your question, but I have checked the site for the SC and the NiteFly guitars and it is accurate unless I am missing something.

Peace,
John

Hi John I am a machinist engineer I measure stuff to thousandths of an inch every day for over 30 years. I accept that the Nitefly neck string spacing is 1.38" that would correlate with the description of regular/fat. I accept the Fly string spacing is 1.43" which correlates with the description of wide/thin. Where I have a problem is the specification of nut width they all say 1.68 whether they are on the Nitefly or the Fly? That can not be right. Nobody would use a wide nut with narrow string spacing that has to be a mistake. I pointed this out a long time ago and just didn't follow up on it and confused myself assuming the the site was correct but it is not. Every single Nitefly with string spacing of 1.38" should have a nut width of 1.63". My Nitefly in fact measures 1.63" with a Starret digital caliper my Fly measures 1.68".

I certainly don't want to upset anybody pointing out website errors. I made the mistake of assuming that whoever designed the SC would emulate the nut width of a LP which is 1.68" and has 1.43" string spacing I would think these would be the logical choice. But as you point out they didn't. I assume because they wanted to use the fret board from a Nitefly? That's is too bad I do understand that there might in fact be some higher costs to designing a unique fret board for the SC one that is 22 frets long and the same width as a Fly. I think this is the neck Parker should be making as I told Gilbert Vasquez one complaint I often hear was the wide/thin was too thin nobody ever says it is too wide they want a wide/fat neck especially on a SC.

Funny you just told us the P series necks were bassed on the Nitefly and the web site says they are 1.650"

You misunderstood me.  I was referring to the oval neck joint.

And a "wide" Fly neck measures 1.68" while a "regular" width Nitefly measures 1.68" seems strange.
