My 98 Fly Classic with custom ebony knobs
« on: April 06, 2007, 09:53:06 PM »
Sorry about the crappy incandescent lighting, I'll try and take some better outdoor pics when we get a sunny day here in MI.  I just recieved the handmade ebony knobs from Jerome little today, and wow!  They are flawless, elegant, and really make a huge difference in the overall aesthetics of the instrument.  The previous owner had a custom ebony pickup ramp installed, and the knobs match it perfectly.   I really wasn't happy with the grey rubber knobs, they stuck out like a sore thumb to me.  It's also nice to have something a little bit different from the rest.  A+ on these knobs.

Those look great....a little blurry...those camera phones are like that[V][:o)]

That ramp is really cool. I don't remember you posting that before. much nicer then tape. [;)]

Yea the weather here is typical Michigan weather. I remember many spring snows but every year people make a big deal about it. It does seem a bit colder then typical.

Thanks guys.  The cam is not actually a camera-phone, but a 10 year old Sony digi (the one that uses floppy discs),  and the focusing options on it are nil.  The ramp was apparently made by one of Breedlove's Luthiers, and is very well made.

I'm really stunned that people are still willing to make such finely crafted items for such a great price.  Stuff like this shows me that there is really no excuse for the garbage that companies like Gibson and Fender put on the shelves.  If someone loves there work, it so often shows in the quality of the finished product.  Hats off to Jerome.

Hey Detonator...what part of Michigan are you from?  I am also from Michigan...about 30 miles west of Detroit in the Novi area.

Currently, I live in Grosse Pointe, east of Detroit.  Might be moving pretty soon though.  Cool to see so many Michigan Parker owners on here.  Maybe it's because MI weather is hell on traditional guitars?

Yea the Michigan economy is the worst in the country the weather I feel confident in saying isn't. I am on the north side near West Bloomfield not far from Novi at all and my sister used to live in Gross Pointe.

I am working with some people to plan an amp show in the area. Looks like late summer early fall. Once the date is set I'll let you all know.[;)]

When some guys do that dive bomb thing with their tremolo bars the strings get so loose that they fall below the pickup and when they let it back up they get caught on the bobbins. That ramp prevents that from happening. Well at least that is my understanding and assumption for why it is there. I read that was the reason that Vai has that green tape on the bottom side of his neck pickup and I am pretty sure you have seen him play so you know why.

Yup, that's exactly what the ramp is for. I should make one for myself, as this happens to me sometimes. I used tape on my old Hamer Prototype, but can't bear to put tape on my Fly (just looks bad). Those knobs are super... very nice work![:D]

How does the ramp affix to the guitar? Is it easily removable?

It is bolted to the top of the guitar.  It looks like it could be easily removed, but there would still be a hole.
