Good find.  I'm not sure if I believe that it's "improvised," but there's a lot of interesting techniques in there.
The four-finger tremolo strumming at 00:35 is very neat, I'm amazed he can get such a consistent attack that way.
The right-hand-over-left tap at 00:58 seems gratuitous yet mysterious- love it.
The multi-finger tapping that happens later is also very well executed (even the over-the-neck part), a very consistent attack without too much gain- quite a feat.

YouTube commenters are the worst.  It's mostly just spam and trolling.

I have to say if that's truly improvised I'm completely blown away. I'm hard pressed to believe it is improvised, though. Killer player regardless.

Great playing, but it's not him live.  Besides the sound quality being a bit too pristine for live improv, there are a couple of giveaways:

- 0.24-0.25: the bend doesn't quite add up to what you actually hear
- 1.33-1.34: he slides down the neck but it doesn't match with the audio
- 2.30-end: the whammy bar hits do not match the audio

Not trying to take anything away from the guy (and I'm sure that is him playing the parts), but it was definitely recorded and then "finger-sync'd" for the video.

Again, great player.  Sometimes I wish I could do some of that...8^)

There's no question in my mind that he's playing over pre-recorded tracks. To me it takes away from from the statement improvised, but I still think he's probably recorded all the parts at some time! I've done the same thing putting together good leads, and then can't reproduce them for a live concert! It does help you to improve what you want to play and sound like! [;)]

Yeah, I've seen other clips from this guy at youTube... I always had the impression his stuff was pre-recorded. He's a great player nevertheless. As for the piece being called "improvisation", I'll take youTube videos for what they are... promo material. [:)]

Arguably, that was some really great playing.  I'm not so sure it wasn't truly live though, for the following reasons:

1. Very few youtube videos are perfectly sycned in respect to the audio and video - some of the "off-ness" could be because of that.

2. Clearly, a great deal of preparation went into it, but I think it was "improvised" at least, in the way that the guy probably uses the term.  It's my understanding that some people in non-US countries (especially those for whom English is a secondary language) use the word "improvisation" differently than we do (check out the French guitar player mattrach on youtube).  It seems that they use the word "improvisation" to mean any composition that is not written down in full sheet music in advance (i.e., played by ear), not necessarily "made up on the spot," in which case, it would seem that the term applies here.

In sum, I think he played it live (with a track - who knows how much was in that), but the video is not sync'd well.  I've seen videos of Satch and Vai on youtube that have the same characteristics, and you know they didn't "finger-sync" their stuff.

In this context, all I have ever played on the guitar was improvised! [8D]
