I got Eric's Bluesbreaker...I wish

Well as close as I am going to any way. It's been a long time in the making but I finished it today and it sounds divine, right off the Mayall CD. I have to thank Ray Domzalski for assembling the board, Brain Wallace for his transformers and assembly and Mike Bacino for the coup-de-grace the beautiful pinstripe grill cloth. Those are the real thing mint condition 1967 Vox Celestion alnicos with 003 cones. If it were the real thing you'd be looking a 20K worth of amp.

It could be argued that that amp has tha most influencial tone of any. The Bluesbreakers album was most peoples introduction to the sound of overdriven guitar and inspired huge numbers of guitarists.
It looks so gorgeous in its new state.

Alex, that's beautiful!  Maybe others already know but I would love to hear about the whole project.  What you started with and what was done.

Ya just never know what 908 is up to.

The next time he goes a month between mod-ing Flys, we will probably learn he built the next space shuttle! [:D] [:D]

Congradulations and enjoy !

Would love to hear it some day.[:p]

Now Alex has said that he wont do any playing on the forum so I thought a solution would be to get some gunslinger to do the playing while he shows the different settings. There can't be too many amp collections like his in the world so it's a shame not to broadcast all these classics. Go on Alex give the boys a break.

It started out as a stock 2003 Bluesbreaker reissue a nice amp but like the reissue line and not the hand wired line it used printed circuit boards and all those tiny components, smaller transformers, and 5881 power tubes. This is stock.

Ray built the board with NOS Mustard capacitors I had bought from England and Germany. Brian stripped the old and installed the new transformers that he has made to old specs. He installed the board and new lower value filter capacitors to match the old spec.

Here you can see the much larger and authentic reproduction transformers. I also bought some real GEC KT66 power tubes these are old military stock from the 60's and under those shields are Mullard 12ax7 preamp tubes and a Mullard rectifier tube. Just for the fun of it we installed an old time round pilot light and a round AC plug called a Bulgin used in the 60s by Marshall.

This is what it looked like originally. It had Marshall's take on pinstripe which while hard to see in this picture is made totally different and looks nothing like the original.

The amp came with Celestion Greenback speakers but I had previously changed to Celestion Blues but for this project I found a set of original Celestion Silver Alnico speakers from 1967 with original Pulsonic 003 cones which according to legend is what Eric used in his Bluesbreaker for the recording session which produced the Mayall Bluesbreaker LP and and helped establish the tone and reputation for Marshall amplifiers. I changed the knobs to the smaller Plexi style. And the grill cloth. Now this probably seems pretty silly but the pinstripe grill cloth has become a bit of a holy grail. The cloth was only used for 4 to 5 years and was the cloth seen on the amps of Eric Clapton with the Bluesbreakers, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton with Cream, The Who, etc. This cloth has not survived well and very few original examples remain. Also because it was fragile they stopped making it in 67 and haven't ever made an authentic replica on a large scale. A few original bolts were hoarded over the years and rumors of their existence were highly guarded secrets. Recently Mike Bacino of Bacino Amps took it upon himself to have small pieces made by hand for his custom amp line and he was very generous in selling me a piece for this project. I also found a reproduction of the original script logo this differs from the script logo that came out in 69 and has been used ever since. The most noticeable difference is the wide spacing inside the "r" and tight hump of the "h".

I'll see what I can do about clips but it really does sound like the Mayall Bluesbreaker.

A friend of mine used to have a reissue in the late 80s. Killer tone. Sounds great with a Strat or a Les Paul.

I'd recommend not using it as a speaker when recording your friend's little-brothers playing Nintendo with a few guitar pedals between.

It could make some changes to amps overall tone. Even it does sound really cool during playback.

 Great work.
2005 Parker Fly Classic, transparent cherry.
2006 Parker Fly Custom, majik blue.

You could spend forever picking the right amp for each string.

That is definately one of my dream amps Alex, I hoping that someday it's in the cards for me to have one.  It looks great, you did a fantastic job, not that I would expect anything less.
