Hendrix video on line

There is a new video web site of special shows and they have a newly edited and restored version of Hendrix at the Monterey concert. I know a new DVD is supposed to be released or has been and this might be that but it isn't the old DVD version this one looks and sounds better.

Just watched the first ten minutes, exciting stuff. He deserves this sort of attention. Great post, thanks Alex.

Everytime I see Hendrix I'm impressed and more impressed. I've seen discussions online saying Hendrix would not be impressive technique wise nowdays. To me there is something more going on in Hendrix's music than technique. I call it alive and it's not copyable with technique alone.

I totally agree. He had a mixture of soul, technique and pioneering spirit which I think made him the most important electric guitarist so far. Watching that video last night I was thrilled to see him hammer on with his thumb in a way I've never seen before(very near the beginning).

I meant to watch 5 minutes. I had to watch it all.

I forgot how fluid he is. Doesn't even look like hes really playing. Amazing.

He does the windmill, The tongue flick, and several precursors of Princes signature moves. Then the teeth plucking and especially the one handed neck plucking, the backwards summersault, playing behind back , Amp humping, and guitar smashing. The fire was kinda lame.

But what I like the most is the look up with eye contact, half smile, and chomp the gum in quarter time breaking out to the full smile.

Now I know why everyone wants to play a strat. Doesn't get any cooler.

PS: The upside down strat horn almost looks Flyish.
