High E string keeps unwinding on ball end!

Hello friends, first of all sorry about my poor english cause I'm spanish. I own three parkers and everyone of them has the same unwinding problem with 1st and 2nd string. I love these guitars but the Factory should fix this trouble inmediately. I think have a good solution, nowadays I never break a string at that point:
Just a simple flexible and thin plastic tube, I cut a little portion of it, I give an extra turn to the ball of the string to reduce the V-shape opening, and I introduce the string on the little tube. It doesn't affect the tone of the string and solve the problem.
Just give it a try!!!
Bye.

Welcome to the Parker Forum.[:D]

Did you try the extra twist of the string without the tubing?

The tubing is cool SRV did that so you're in good company. The tubing makes a lot of sense if the string is breaking on the sharp edge inside. If the string is unwinding the extra twist makes more sense. So doing both might be perfect.

Do you know where that tubing came from? What it is usually used for?

Hi again, I'm happy you find this trick useful, I can say that works for me for the last three years.
Yes, I give the extra turn to the ball before to put the string into the plastic tube.
Where can you find this kind of plastic tube??? Well, I don't know exactly where. I found it at home, but I imagine it could be found at Handcrafts stores (sorry, I don't know the exact english word for it).
Just with the extra turn to the ball may be enough to avoid the unwinding, the key is to close a little bit the V-shape space within the ball. But with the plastic tube I'm sure I can make a gig without any unexpected breaking.
Bye and best regards.

That green tubing looks to me like it's a lot smaller in diameter than your typical heat shrink tubing...

I have to repeat I think the extra twist is what is making the difference not the tubing. If you look at his picture the way that is twisted the string won't be hitting any edges near the ball end so the tubing can't really have any effect. Won't hurt mind you. I have seen tiny shrink tubing but that is a lot more trouble than giving the string and extra twist. I'll be doing that from now on. I embarrassed I didn't think of it.[:I]

It follows the logic in my post above and fits this drawing where the tighter wind would be the top drawing and the loose wind the bottom drawing.

You missed it. Just grab the twist with a small pliers and put a small allan wrench in the ball and give it a turn.

I have used D'addario for 20 years and in the last year the same unwinding phenomenon has happened to me 5 times.  3 Times on Parkers and 2 times on my Gretsch.  I contatcte D'addario and gave them a batch number.  They said it was the first they have heard of it.  hmmmmm

Thread the string through the "ball" end hole.
Every high e used to unwind or break at the "ball" on my Stetsbar trem until I did this .
Not one string has broken since
