Al Dimeola is extraordinary. I first came across over thirty years ago when I bought Elegant Gypsy. The track Mediterranean Sundance is an all time favourite of mine.
The only thing that exists is this moment now.

Al Di Meola THE influence in my guitar playing for about five years. It all started when I got "Electric Rendevous" in 1988 or so and peaked when I got "Kiss My Axe" in 1993. "Orange And Blue" is a great one, too. I saw Al in Nov 2006 at the House Of Blues here in Las Vegas, that was a good show. He did a lot of stuff of his latest album called "Corrosion Of Conformity".

Anyhow, he is in the TOP FIVE for me. I sure would love to see them on this reunion tour, but it's just not going to happen. [B)]

I first heard Al DiMeola when he joined RTF on the "where have I known you before" album. He was replacing Bill Connors who left the group after "hymn of the seventh galaxy" back in the early seventies. Good times! [:D]

Sometime in 1978 I got a copy of his first solo album Land of the Midnight Sun and bought the Splendino Hotel album when it first came out.

Those that were around at the time may be able to conceptualize this: It's difficult to really express how blown away people were at the time to hear bands like Clapton, Wings, Thin Lizzy and Foreigner for years in the 1970's, and then all of a sudden Van Halen, Al Dimeola, Alan Holdsworth (Luc Ponte)... started hitting non-Jazz music stores (well - the good ones that actually sold records instead of just the bong accessories). It was an amazing time when album releases were bigger events than Christmas and your birthday rolled together.

Seeing RTF would be awesome - I'm going to see if I can catch the Portland, Or show.
