Anybody else want to know who's on the forum with you?
How about live chat?

Just wondering...

Casey, when John Rooker had the live Parker chat, I was always checking in to see who was around. Basically, I only had a few conversations over a 3 week period. Mostly Kavan in England and a few others only a couple of times. Thought it was a good idea, it just didn't seem to pan out! [8)]

Yeah, I think it would be seasonal.  There are days I'll check the forum and it seems like overnight, everybody and their brother posted.  I'm sitting there thinking, "Where was I?"  Then, I'll be on a bunch, and basically by myself (as far as I could tell).  It's like having just the right effect at just the right moment - you would never miss not having it, but if you used it once and liked it, you'd always want access to it.  Does that make sense? If not, note the posting time [;)] [:p]

Okay, Alex, I was eager to meet you next week anyway; but the Tolkien reference just ramped up my estimation of your coolness by "countless leagues!"

Casey,

The main drawback to your suggestion (which I think is a great one) is that the system would have to be able to log you off whenever you close your browser.  As it is now, I only have to log on once a month or so (I think it depends on whenever I clear out my cookies, but I can't swear to that).  So as far as the FORUM'S concerned, I'm basically ALWAYS on it (which probably isn't that far off the mark [:0][:p][;)][:I]).

How about implementing a "shoutbox" that is permanently visible on top of the mainpage? I've seen it done on other forums and I think it's a great feature. Especially useful for doing a little small talk or discussing issues that you wouldn't necessarily open a new thread for.

I think that done properly with an advanced enough implementation, it wuold be quite useful and very cool. The login/logout issue being the biggest technological hurdle, IMO - but I believe there must already exist a protocol or some such thing to handle it. I'd like to see the forum aesthetics get upgraded a bit... Something a bit more modern, elegant and perhaps more homogenous with the visual feel of the rest of the Parker site.
