I found this guy's comments very interesting.

I like music theory and if you give him a chance to get going he starts to make a lot of sense. I don't know if he is right or wrong but like I said, I find this approach interesting.

I'm a fan of Joe so I'll keep my biased comments of who is right to myself. Neither one seems to be hurting for cash or fame so I really don't think that has anything to do with it. I think in the end no matter who wins the case they both loose.

I doubt highly that Coldplay consciously stole that part of the melody from Satriani. It's nice and all, but I think if they'd realized they were ripping him off, they'd have changed the melody enough to not do it. Sounds like Joe's gravy train is pulling into the station...

Very interesting.

Maybe its like a 4 car pile up.

The last one in the pile gets charged with driving too close. [?][:D]

Intent is not part of the law as I understand it.

There is a web site with ten examples all of which had to pay the original composer and none are as obvious as the Joe/Coldplay song.

Some like My sweet Lord and He's so Fine shouldn't have won but did.

Intent is part of the law, believe it or not, but that doesn't matter with copywritten material the way I understand it.
