Regarding the frets, there is no real way for us to satisfy this request. Our frets have no tangs and are stainless steel. We buy the rolls 100 pounds at a time and would have to buy 100. pounds of wire to use one and a half for the guitar. The fixtures for gluing the frets on are specific to the fret size as well, so a custom gauge will not fit. If we could have satisfied one of our valued forum members 100%, we would have done our best to do all of his requests. I'm sorry we couldn't.

Why not just use the Nitefly frets (same ones used on the Stealth Hardtails)?

So, here's the latest update in the saga:

Once again, by some twist of fate, the Adrian Belew Signature Fly is available in its originally offered colors - 'Tangerine Orange', 'Lime Gold' and the newly christened (at least by Sweetwater, the formerly 'Arctic Silver') 'Platinum'. See the sweetwater site for the latest evidence:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FlyABvxOr/

Apparently, they had some degree of a pow-wow during the Feb 17th Event and made this decision. Per the Sales Engineer at Sweetwater who is handling my order, all custom colors offered by Parker will also now be available, albeit with a(n)(additional?) wait time of 4-6 months.

Cheers.

Christopher,

As someone who has a custom Fly being built, I believe that all estimates of completion dates are meaningless.  If you want a custom Fly you just have to resign yourself to the fact that you'll get it when you get it.  The truth is that from start to finish it only takes about 3 weeks to build a Fly.  Maybe a little longer for the AB because of the electronics but no more than a week.  USM is company that is run in react mode and I think they are always putting out one fire or another.  Until your guitar becomes one of those fires, its progress will be very slow.  My guitar should have been finished weeks ago.  I have been waiting well over a year.

Thanks for the sobering reminder, Chris... All points very well taken. Fortunately, strictly speaking, time is not really an issue at this point, especially after 5 months of waiting already. The only factor I have any concern about is trying to coordinate my next visit out to California for my band's next recording sessions with having the AB Sig in my possession. We'll see if I can work some predictive scheduling magic in the weeks to come and have it all coincide... [:D]

Note that the Parker website states that the Nylon Fly comes in the "following colors" [sic]: butterscotch. If they're gonna go plural on 'color' they could at least offer dusty black as well. For 4 grand, though, I guess butterscotch will suffice.

How about with one's custom order, for every week past the 6 month delivery promise, you get $100 off? That ought to light a fire. Not sure it would be a good influence on quality control, though.

A very 'unyielding' stance, Strandwolf [:0][;)], but I think it's really a fair one. I mean, just as companies can charge a premium to have a product or service expedited for a customer, it seems to stand to reason that the opposite should also hold true.  I'm sure someone here with more firsthand experience in a related field would have some good insights either validating or invalidating this concept.

Cheers.

Monsieur,
Your Fly awaits electronics. It has been painted and buffed, and Dennis is coming to pick it up this week. It takes a week or two past when he gets it to get it back, but the day we do we will ship it to Sweetwater.

Thanks a ton, Terry. I really appreciate it, as well as the status update. Makes a huge difference in my planning and travel plans.

P.S. - Wishing you all the best on the developement of the 'DragonFly'. You guys are awesome for taking such an interactive approach to creating a completely new model.

Cheers.

It seems that every time I receive a good piece of encouraging news (like that above), I am thrown a bizarre, ill-timed curveball... [:0]

Details to follow when I have had time to sort through my thoughts and make relative sense of it all... [;)]

I had a feeling it was too good to be true. I will say that when all is said and done you will have one whizdinger of a guitar. I wouldn't count on delivery before 2011, though.

Those ordering one-off custom made items travel a rocky, seemingly endless road. Hang in there, Monsieur.

Always refreshing to have you chime in, Strandwolf. Yes, I increasingly take it all with a grain or two of salt... Such is the nature of this imperfect world, so to expect perfection can be a bit foolish. Yet, we must still at least have frameworks and such in which to lead our feeble lives, etc... (But I digress... [:D] ).

In a word, my new, current issue(s) is/are primarily with Sweetwater. Really nothing that I don't have faith that it will be resolved once reason has a chance and the time to prevail. But each time things seem to simplify a step, two new steps of complexity seem to arise - and usually within the same 24 hour period. Kinda crazy.

Also just got an Email from Terry this morning that reiterates his post above while more precisely specifying the time frame (2 weeks as opposed to my estimated 3 based on what he stated above...). BUT, the complications still remain, so the Kool-Aid remains in the pitcher as I'm cautiously refraining from pouring a glass and drinking it yet. [;)]

Cheers.

Just another update for those interested - a bit of cross-pollination from the related AB Sig thread (from earlier this afternoon) at http://forums.parkerguitars.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8067&whichpage=3:

but here's some news for christopher ...........

i just dropped off a dusty black AB that i just completed late this afternoon which terry had told me was going to have a d-tuner installed.  assuming this was going to chris, i put in 8 wires on the connector needed to be accessed by the workbench feature.  and chris will be my real-world test as to whether this will be feasible.

so .......... if i'm correct that this one has your name on it .......... it's not far off from being in your hands.

just FYI, here's probably what's going to happen now that it's out of my hands:  first thing monday morning, terry will assign someone to install the d-tuner and do the final setup.

then it will be tested out fully and send it to final inspection where it will be detailed and given the final OK.

hopefully, there won't be a long line of guitars in front of yours in each of these operations.

i'll be in touch within the next few weeks to arrange getting the last piece of the puzzle to you.

dennis

great news on the progress status!... i'll have to begin preparing accordingly and look forward to being in touch after receiving the guitar to work-out the workbench kinks... thanks a ton for the update! [8D] [:D]

The light at the end of the tunnel keeps getting a little bit brighter and a little bit closer... [:D]

Cheers.
