Crackback P-38
« on: February 28, 2009, 08:41:04 PM »
I saw this damaged P-38 on eBay for $120 + shipping and took a chance.

The seller said it played perfectly, and it did![:D]

The damage, apparently when the guitar was dropped or something fell on it, was confined to the back. The clearcoat was cracked there, so a guitar repairman (I'm not sure the term luthier is appropriate here) drilled some tiny holes along the cracks and injected wood glue with a needle. There are also two small holes along a tiny crack at the base of the neck.

Here's the worst of the damage, just behind the plug:

Believe it or not, the guitar sounds perfect. It's a testament to the quality of materials Parker uses.

Here's the serial #:

I assume it was made in December 2000.

None of the damages nor repairs are visible from the front. I've been thinking about leveling out all the surfaces in the back with putty and painting just the back with the red, white and blue scheme like the Fly in the finishes guide sticky at the top of this category.

Thanks for looking and for any observations/suggestions.
