2009 factory tour, lets get something set up
« Reply #15 on: July 02, 2009, 03:12:03 PM »
As mentioned before, it all depends on the dates and the days(midweek against weekends etc). I have 2 weeks free from gigs in mid August although, again for selfish reasons, if it could be October it would be even better (flights are cheaper from the UK), but I have to accept what you guys can fit in and also the wishes of other people that may want to come on the tour.

Personally I think BillyT should propose 2 or 3 dates and people who are interested should say which ones suit.  The most popular wins.

Okay, I've not said anything about the timing of the first tour until this point, but "the truth must out!"  Jeff kinda took credit for it (the timing, not the whole event, "We had enough people asking to do it, so I decided to make it happen" says Parker Head of Sales, Jeff Dale."  This is from the Parker press release on their website).  The truth is, after a lot of discussion on the forum about a tour, it was actually myself that just took the bull by the horns.

I emailed Jeff a request for his phone number, called him and basically said, "Hey, I want to come up at the end of May... will that work?  I'm glad to invite the others who want to come, but this is when I'm going to be there if you'll let me."  He said he'd talk to the management at USM/Parker and get back to me.  Next thing I knew, there was a thread there with dates and times announcing the tour.  I was really happy, of course, I got what I wanted - a tour of the factory where my precious Fly was born.  But I was little put out that he seemed to take credit for something that I PERSONALLY FEEL might not have happened had I not put a little pressure on him.

I'm not trying to rewrite history here - my point is that I got sick of all the back and forth and basically said, "I'm coming up on May 29.  Let's invite the others."  And thankfully, Parker was cool with it!  What a great group of people!

All that to say, Terry, it would probably work best if you picked a date, and let the others adapt their schedules to fit.  It worked the first time.

How about the 23rd of october (or 24th if it needs to be a weekend)?

It just happens to be the day I'm flying to Chicago from Johannesburg to fetch my new flys :-)

Ok - I admit that's selfish, but does that period work for anyone? Terry?

Let's set the date for September 24 and 25th. Andy, you will get the tour anyway when you arrive for you Flys.
Is this date convenient?
Lets start the list of attendees. I would realy like to see a lot of you here that post regularly. I think the last one yeilded a lot of good, and hope this next one will also.
Ten people is a really worthwhile attendance. We can stretch it a little if there is enough interest.

I'd love to be there (especially since I now live in Chicago), but I'll be in class Thursday and Friday. If you guys are doing anything those evenings let me know, though!

Billy, I'd love to, but i will have just started on the 8th, and as it is a Violin Luthier school it is more hands on than note taking. :)

Otherwise, I'd be there with bells on!

Talk to your teacher and see if h would like to have the group come down. As long as it is  five or so guys he may think this to be a good part of your education.

I have 2 gigs (one afternoon and one evening) on the 26th and there is no way I could get back to the UK in time so I have to pass. [:(] I would still like to attend a factory tour sometime though.
