Title: Anniversary Fly
Post by: ZemanG2 on October 02, 2012, 01:07:51 AM
Hey guys who would be interested in a series of Anniversary Fly's? Bring back the stealth, hard tail, master volume knob, the original Fly balance wheel... and who knows even throw out a new version of the old flex cable:)  Make them a limited run, kinda like a VOS,

I, for one, would definitely buy one

I believe we discussed this last year. I'm just to lazy search it out. Anyways I'd never buy a new Fly with ribbon cables again. So If it was a Stealth-esque hardtail guitar I might be interested.

The old Fishman board isn't made anymore, nor the hex bushing and arm, nor some other pre-refined stuff, I'm sure... so reissues would only be partially correct partial look-alikes unless the factory committed to some major investment in parts. Anyway, reissues in general have never appealed to me personally... and as real pre-refined Flys are out there in good quantities and at very low prices, I wonder how many people would pay three times as much for a new reissue.

I was just wondering about this same thing this morning.  I think you could do an anniversary Fly - kind of a "what if the original Fly came out for the first time this year?" kind of thing.  So, bring back the master volume, but leave the Graphtech saddles and Ghost preamp.  And please, for the love of God, the original headstock.  What might make it extra special is some killer woodgrain (maybe a special run of rare tonewood) or amazing paint jobs?  I would also wonder if some special pups would make it worth it to people (including me) to buy a new Fly.

I think it should be more commemorative/collectable than a reissue. Maybe a once piece timeless timber with gold hardware. simple but unique and a custom shop pickup.

on the point that there are plenty of pre-refined out there, true, as far as the electronics go there may be some people who want that nostalgia, or this would allow Parker the chance to make a bunch and sell them for those people.

If not VOS, then definitely commemorative would be cool, original headstock, master etc. rare wood series.

I'm sure this has been discussed at length but I too did not want to dig.

Eventhough I depleted my cash on another project I can't stop myself thinking about what kind of wonderful flys could see daylight!

In my opinion, make it something cool, something new and most definitely something that breaks away a little bit from tradition.

How about a hardtail basswood/basswood 7 string fly - of course in the stealth finish…

Or ...

ash or alder bodied fly with a single/single/hum configuration? (22 fret neck)

I should have won the lottery yesterday. :( I can think of too many things I'd want to splurge on.

YES!  Or even a SSS (maybe with a single coil shaped 'bucker (w/tap) in the bridge)... and noiseless.

Maybe the anniversary model needs to go back to the very first prototype as an inspiration?  See Paul's site:

It would put me in hot water with the wife, but if Parker did a true SSS Fly as an anniversary model, I would totally buy one.  I can't believe at age 36 I'd be mowing yards again for spending money, but I would totally do that for just such a guitar!  :o

Love this approach...  and maybe something inscribed on the back plate.

MountainDew,

You totally blew my mind with that 1st Parker prototype. I'd never seen that before. That top horn freaks me right the f*** out!

I'm all for the step/stop tension wheel, I'm not sure why that ever went. Other stuff I can take or leave/mod myself...

You know what would be cool?  A commemorative Fly with the new Fishman Fluence Pickups!  If I can rearrange some financial stuff this year, I'm totally putting them in a NiteFly (maybe a custom Fly if I can pull together the cash).

Check these dudes out!
