Title: Craigslist Specials
Post by: resettheconsole on January 23, 2015, 03:01:34 PM
I lurk craigslist alot, especially for Parkers (been trying to find a rootbeer classic for a long time, and a few have come up but either at extreme prices, or get snagged before I get to them). Sometimes I see something that needs to be shared, and this is one. Seems like this fella decided he'd rather not have frets, and ripped them all off the board. I can't imagine the glue residue doing any favors for tone or play-ability...

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/msg/4859531008.html

I think I'll just dump other off-the-wall finds in here as well, as to not start a new thread every time.

Yeah, but apparently he kept the frets in case you want to glue them back on.

That makes it worth two grand for sure.  That and the Arctic Blue finish that he is obviously so impressed with.

Hey guys
I lurk CL too and since getting my guitar I really look for them now everywhere, anyway I don't know if this helps.

Theres a df624 in root beer at music go round Littleton Co.
 Really bad pictures.
I thought it was silver until I saw it in person.
 It's been there awhile now.
They want $1099
Cheers!

Appreciate the heads up, Mr303, but it's got to be a Pre-Refined Fly Classic in RB for me (:

I sold my MINT teal classic, and a good portion of that money is sitting, waiting for me to find a Root Beer classic, which I'd prefer to be in decent players condition.

You're welcome
It's just a shame to see Parkers sitting in a shop being the "red headed step child" to Gibson and Fenders.

This ones actually quite interesting. First H-S-H Fly I've ever seen.

Looks to a bit of a hodge-podge of pre-refined and refined parts. Maybe a collection of Wilmington leftovers, sprinkled with USM electronics?

I noticed an Omaha CL listing today

Snakeskin Fly Mojo #25 of 50
$4000

Looks interesting, but I know nothing about it other than to mention it here.

It's worth a look for the snakeskin paint job.

Sorry I can't set a link to it.

Well I learned something new today. Snakeskin. Wow.

Ok,now that's something I never expected.

And it's simply spending time in a case, out of sight out of mind, what a waste, IMHO.

And that's why I hang my guitars on the wall where I can see them and grab them as needed.

I assume you mean this one? The price seems a bit high, but if anyone out there has "got to have" the snakeskin mojo, I'm sure they'd pay it.

Yup thats the one.

I looked on the web for other examples after seeing it.
Found a couple for 4-5000 when new but they sold long ago.

It is pricey still.

Lots of misc chatter found about them when they were sold initially.

Farm raised Python snakes for fun and profit.

I feel I just got a pretty stellar deal on a 2006 Parker Nitefly.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/231519314118?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D231519314118%26_rdc%3D1

I currently have a '96 Fly Deluxe, a Nitefly-M in Tangerine (not many are painted), and a P38.  Started in on Parker with the P38 and kept upgrading with Parkers.   As nice a guitar as the Korean P38 actually is for its price point, I have been searching for quite some time for a Nitefly to upgrade.  For the condition it is in I am used to see these going for more around the $1000 price point.  Not all, every once in awhile they sell for less, but it has to do with the condition it is in and how motivated the seller is.  I finally pulled the trigger; I'll keep you updated if it turns out to be too good to be true.

That IS a good deal.  I do see Niteflys going for 600-700, but not mint like this one.  I think used Niteflys are the absolute best value you can get in respect to guitars.  Congrats!

The Nitefly A was as mint as advertised. I love the playability of the parker, but I still love the g&l commanche pickups.  Thinking about modding the parker to use the z-coils and custom making a pickguard.  The commanche is a tribute series, so I got it cheap and can throw in other pickups.

I'm on the hunt for a southern nitefly as well.
Title: Re: Craigslist Specials
Post by: jb63 on July 18, 2015, 03:39:05 PM
I've used my southern exactly 3 times in as many months. I love it to death but unless I get out there and play more, I may not be able to justify keeping it. Thing about it is, I cannot get any other Parker to sound like it.

But the best thing about the nitefly model is that it's designed for you to swap out the pickups. So I'll bet you could make a nitefly into a southern that way very inexpensively.

'Will pay up to $400.00 for a used one in nice condition with case.'

Indeed quite funny.

Maybe a Gibby or even a Tele from a pawn shop if your lucky.

The one from Colorado Springs is a better deal as strictly a working "try a very light guitar".
But then with shipping, that most certainly would blow his budget.

Nice "holier than thou" undertone/jab of how "some players regard them as high value some do not used" too.

He's looking for a PDF series but doesn't know it.

He's looking for a PDF series but doesn't know it.

Except that he claims all he cares about is weight: 'I see them as a very good utility instrument that is simply VERY LIGHTWEIGHT and nothing more ... I don't care to spend a lot for one as I simply want to try a very light guitar.' He should leave Flys to players who have a clue.

He can always pick up a cheap Strat copy and do something like this to it:

But then again CL here is special... One would think we have the market cornered on Fast Fret, this has been up for years http://myrtlebeach.craigslist.org/msg/5504253836.html

And if you are in the market for an EVH, look no further.  To bad not light weight enough to be a utility guitar?

Still has to be sanded and painted.

If you're talking about my suggestion for the craigslist poster, I was essentially joking. But drilling, sanding, and painting constitute some folks' idea of a good time.

If you're talking about the white Strat, you're looking at the finished product. Go here and scroll down:

Hey to clarify,
I'm not saying that guitar isn't nice, it's just not my cup of tea.
Tele's and Strats just don't work for me.

It's well done with nice hardware and good finish.
The symmetry of the pattern is well executed and the colors work.
Title: Re: Craigslist Specials
Post by: TinMachine on April 21, 2016, 08:12:15 AM
Its not bad. But seems like by the time you spend drilling,  sanding and painting would be anti cost effective.  Especially if you are having a luthier finish it or even a pro paint job. Home diy,  sure,  cheap fun,  but it probably won't ever look professional.  And yes,  I think we all know it was a joke.

I see remnants of fret lines in the photo, so I hypothesize 'user modification syndrome'. (Why would anyone actually ask for a fretless ebony board guitar?)

^ I just had a fun phone conversation with the sales guy where the 'fretless' guitar is located. He said not only have the frets been pulled off by a previous owner, but the body is also cracked and smashed near the output jack. He says the thing should not even be listed for sale, but somehow it keeps popping back into place on the website and people keep calling to ask about it.

Well, I've played a number of fretless guitars, and made a few, but it is a really tough sell. You have to put a lot of man hours into making them and setting them up, then a lot into learning to play them. That's the hard part. unless you came from a bowed instrument background. If the setup is good and and it intones OK and the board is smooth and you can convince them to set it up with flatwounds, and the Piezo, Electronics and trem still work... $200 is a pretty fair deal.

Looks like it may have some delamification near the truss rod hole.
I find it interesting that the amount of fabric texture on the back of the guitar is proportional to the year made, for instance:
both '93 Deluxes I've seen = prominent texture on body and neck
'95 Deluxe I've seen = slightly less prominent texture on body and neck
'96 Classic I've seen = slightlier less prominent texture on body and no texture on neck
'09 Artist I've seen = no texture anywhere

The nerd inside of me wants to plot a graph of this strange behavior, but alas I have other graphs to work on :)
Anyone else notice this?

I appreciate the heads up, and it's good to see someone rattling the cage bars. I was reading another forum where someone said "there are Parkers, and there are Parker Flys, big difference"(ir something to that effect). Is a Parker Dragon Fly really worth the price of a Pre-refined Parker Fly? I haven't played one, but I don't consider my Parker P-36--nice as it is, in the same league with my three Parker Flys. I'm not looking to rile people up, but educate me.

I've never played a US Dragonfly but I hear they're built  as well as the US Music Flys, which is to say pretty well.  Whether this one's worth $1500 I guess depends on what you like in a guitar.  For me, it lacks a few things that I love about my Flys and NiteFlys - piezo, the Parker trem, and the quirky body shape.  Not even sure that the Dragonfly has the compound radius fingerboard.

Having said that, has anybody noticed that Flys and NiteFlys are getting more expensive lately?  I paid $650-800 for my Niteflys, and up to about $1600 for my Flys.  But now it seems like asking prices are heading seriously north; most Flys in good shape are at least $2K, some a lot more (regardless of year).  NiteFlys seem to be $900-1200.  Maybe it's because news has got around that there won't be any more ever?

I have played Adam Dutkiewicz custom DF and it’s very similar in feel to my Fly guitars with his setup.
I think a couple forum members use DF’s professionally.
Is this CL special worth it?, not to me but they are nice axes.

Also asking prices may be rising but I would like to see the actual sales price.

Here in Denver I see a Parker once or twice a year on CL, 2 years ago I bought a 94 Hardtail with minor paint dings for $1100 mainly because of the hardtail and also it was an early model.

As a side note I visited Drum City Guitarland (the largest Schecter dealer west of the Mississippi I think) lots of beautiful guitars...as in 700 models in stock of all varieties. (Owner told me he gets all the Schecter prototype guitars, I haven’t checked but supposed to be 100 protos on his web site...)
Only trouble is.....wait for it...is the weight of these “normal” guitars.
Nobody makes a Parker weight or comparably easy playing guitar that I get GAS for anymore.
Though I did play a Reverend hollow body that was pretty sweet.
So I guess they’re out there but few and far between.

The DF824 Dragonfly model is equivalent to other Fly models. Carbon wrapped, flat spring trem, etc.

Lower lines don't have the carbon wrap or flat spring trem. Great guitars, but different.

Yeah, I've noticed prices starting to escalate. The collectors are kicking in.

Wow, obviously I spoke too soon about the prices...  This just came up on Vancouver Craigslist - a 1997 Plum Deluxe Fly for $1000 Canadian (about $850 US).  A few nicks and dings but otherwise looks to be in great shape. Sold within a few hours.

Yes, I've also seen some lower-priced Flys come up and then go away. Reverb and eBay obviously show some folks asking north of $2k for Flys, but I tend to watch these listings and rarely see them go for that price (even in good condition).

I try to keep a tab on what the auction guitars actually sell for, and it looks like it's usually in the high teens for a Fly in excellent condition.  I'm not sure if you can tell on Reverb what the selling price turned out to be.

Agreed. I’ve observed the same.
