Title: Value of my Artist
Post by: Dr.Tom on March 17, 2017, 04:10:41 PM
I'm continuing to liquidate some of my collection.I still have over 30 guitars, down from 40, and I just came across a Fly Artist I forgot I had .(I sold the Mojo and Deluxe some years ago)I bought it in July of '08 from Magdon Music. Its silver in color. Can anyone give me an estimate of it's value? It's in excellent condition as it's seldom been played since it was purchased. Thank you.

Best regards,

Tom

Hi Tom-

Is that the cedar artist in your sig?

If I had the money to spend, I'd say $800 or less ;)

But although you likely spent more, probably $2200-2400 based on what Parkers seem to be going for recently.

Yes,its the Grey heather(cedar) one in my signature. I didn't realize I had put many of my guitars in my signature some time ago. (I'll update it).

Thank you for the information on it's present value.

Best regards,

Tom

You bet. I love artists, you don't see many for sale, especially in cedar.

So you might get more if someone knows what it is, has the $$, and is in the market.

If you just want a quick sale, then $2k is probably best.

There's a classified section here though not many here anymore and those that are probably not in the market.

Imho it will probably take a while to get the "right" buyer, but when it happens you will have a very happy transaction. Wish it was me!

Now I'm questioning if this is actually an Artist can you look at the photos and tell because it only has 3 control knobs:

I may have answerred my own question; I'm looking at some of the Cedar "Thors" and they only have 2 controls so maybe this is OK?  The guitar was definitely sold to me as a Cedar Artist.

The wood type is typically the only thing that distinguishes an Artist from something else. Also, an Artist painted instead of clear finished would be quite unusual.

The serial number includes a letter code for the wood type. What is the complete serial number?

Well, now I'm confused ... the wood code I expected isn't there.

I (and others) can only speculate that it's most likely a Deluxe (poplar with basswood neck) because of the paint. You should probably not advertise it as an Artist until the wood type can be determined.

I believe the wood type is on the back of the headstock

Thor was a custom one off as part of a themed set based on different wood types, with no piezos. I would not base your id on those guitars.

Agree with some of syber's notes but I believe that although most artists are spruce there were also some done in cedar. This is probably just painted a solid color because the wood grain wasn't very pretty. Maybe a custom order that someone backed out of.

If you can contact the store where you bought it they may have better info?

You should be able to verify wood type by carefully taking the back cover off (watch the battery wires!) and checking any areas that don't have paint, like pickup wire holes. You might even be able to tell by smell at that point.

Imho if you list as a deluxe you are probably low balling yourself a bit. It would not hurt to say you can't verify its id as an artist per usual serial # though.

That's what we needed to see. B (basswood neck) and C (cedar body).

Looks like you indeed have a painted cedar Artist there.

Could be. The OP here (Dr.Tom) posted a question in that same thread.

I want to thank all of you for your assistance in helping me figure out if my Parker was indeed a Cedar Artist. I hadn't had it out of its case in years and didn't know where to start other than to come here . You all saved me a ton of time for which I am grateful. Thank you again.

Best regards,

Tom

Or if the right buyer is online when he posts it, it might go real quick  ;)

Thanks Dr Tom!
