Title: What is this?
Post by: watttt on July 01, 2008, 11:45:43 AM
I bought this about a year ago.  It was made in the USA.  I know its a fly but i don't know if it's a classic or a custom or what.  Seeing as how i'm new to this, im kinda retarded and can't see how to upload an image so if someone could tell me how i'll put up a picture, but until then i guess i'll describe it.  It has two magnectic pickups and a piezo.  It has the button next to the input for the piezo.  It has four knobs (master volume, magnetic volume, magnectic tone, piezo volume and tone on one knob) and two switches (bridge vs. neck pickup, piezo vs. magnetic pickup).  I'm not sure what else to include in the description but if someone could let me know how to put up pictures i'll do that.  Thanks in advance.

Serial number from the headstock will reveal all.  Your description of the controls shows that it is a pre-2003 "non refined" Fly.

It's a 1996 Ruby Red Deluxe made on Day 311, 6th guitar of the day.

The guitar has a poplar body, basswood neck.  The back of the guitar is reinforced with carbon/glass fiber as is the neck and the fingerboard is carbon/glass fiber with stainless steel frets.

Pickups are DiMarzio first generation Fly pickups.  Using the pickup selector, you have neck only, neck and bridge coil tapped, and bridge only.

The other toggle switch chooses mags/mgas+piezo/piezo only.  On the end of the guitar, you will find a small puch button switch that control stereo/mono output.

Nice guitar!

It kinda looks like it has that metallic cast to it like Ruby.  My S2 is Ruby and it's an great color..I think.  I'm red/green color blind, but it looks cool to me! [8D]

The only thing John left off is that the 311th day would have been Wednesday, November 6th.  [:0][:p][;)]

I don't have a Classic yet, but to ME the Deluxe is what I'll always think of as "the Parker Sound".

Great guitar, and welcome to the forum! [:D]

thanx a lot.  that was a lot of detail. but the only thing im not sure of was the deluxe part cause when i bought it there was a deluxe about 200 dollars more and it was a little different.  I forget what was different but the guy just told me it was a deluxe and nothing really about mine.  but once again thanx a lot, it was a lot of help

This may seem like a stupid question, but what is meant by the bridge and neck pickups being coil tapped.  Is it just that they're being used at the same time?

It means that they only have one coil each being used.  Many humbuckers can be coil-tapped, which results in a sound close to (but not exactly like) a single coil pickup.  Parker coil taps both pickups, so you still get hum-cancelling, but a near-single-coil sound.
