Title: Bought a Maxxfly in Guitar Centre and....
Post by: simpleonly on November 09, 2015, 05:14:13 PM
I tried to open the back plate to adjust the spring, and i found out that there is no piezo pre amp. This makes me real sad... I live in Dubai, U.A.E waited so long for this baby to arrive and this is what i got. I need help.. What should i do?

There are many 'MaxxFly' models - some with piezos, some without. You gotta read the ads carefully and make sure the model advertised is the one you want. What model was advertised? What model did you receive? Photos will help if you don't know.

Its a df624 in rootbeer. Im pretty sure it should have the piezo pre amp. I have a cousin in NY, she's the one that spoke with the GC representative, and they just told her that there are only dings and scratches in the guitar and not a major problem with it. i'm really shocked about what happened to this guitar, the solder in the pots are also tampered you can see in the way the wires are soldered in the pots. I just need a minute to show you guys the images.

Does the guitar have all the other aspects of a true DF624 aside from the piezos? Look at the descriptions in a Parker catalog from 2010/12/13/14/15 and make sure.

If so, and if the guitar was sold as used, it must be that a previous owner modified it. In that case, you should be able to return it to Guitar Center for a refund (or just get some credit back if you prefer and consider further modifying it yourself). You can reference this thread as evidence.

That's one of the reasons to buy from guitar center: the return policy!
But if the price was good enough you might consider just buying some graph tech saddles and their preamp and installing it yourself.

From the picture I'd say the piezo is there and wired the the lower volume pot. The middle volume pot was replaced with a push pull pot and that has coil tapping added to it. The piezo should work just fine just it's just passive. Have you tried it to see if the piezo works?

hi guys and thanks for replying, yup the piezo is working as passive but the volume level is too low, a friend of mine is suggesting that i should try putting a preamp to the piezo to boost the volume up.

I use an outboard preamp. The Zoom's are pretty good for the money, The Fishman stuff is top notch and amazing.

My brother uses this. Definitely the nicer of the two, but also $329.  It sounds amazing.

Hi Luc,
does you brother use Fishman's Aura with Fly or with some other piezo?
I was looking into getting Aura for my Fly, and I really respect and value your opinion

thank you in advance

He's using it with a Parker acoustic. The images that Fishman use sound really natural. I highly recommend at least trying it. The Zoom is nice if you just want to take the Parker piezo and fatten it up a little and add some light effects. It still sounds like an acoustic electric, but a good one. The Fishman can make you sound like a legit acoustic guitar. Pretty cool tool. :)

Great Luc, thank you very much for the answer.
I will start looking around for it to try it and then to find some good offer on used market :)

Personally I hate the Fishman Aura.  I find the IRs in the unit are very "phasey".  I use an Axe FX and shoot my own acoustic IRs. Much more pleasant IMO.

Thank you very much for your honest opinion. Just confirms that - "try YOURSELF before you buy it" is always of an essence!

GC also has a few Fly Deluxes currently JFYI

I will also have to state for the record that our PDF60W plays just as good if not better but it has a real nice setup

Good Luck simpleonly

If it were me I would buy the Parker saddles from Graphtec and through in the midi and acoutisphonic kit! You will need to make mods but it's pretty simple.
