Title: Flextone III
Post by: PatricBrown on May 25, 2006, 11:47:17 AM
I went and got the Flextone III I had had in a store in Lafayette on consignment, having decided that on reports I've read here that it'd be worth more to me to have as a studio/performance amp than the little I'd get for it. It's the early, discontinued(they may have discontinued the whole Flextone line from what I see, or don't see, in catalogs.) This is the one with the 75 watts, and 1 12. Not the Plus, and not the XL. No lines out, but it can be miked, which I don't mind doing. I have a Pod XT, and it is said the sound of the Flextone, and the POD XT both come from the Vetta, but there is one patch that only the Flextone III has, and it's not, AFAIK, on the Vetta, OR the POD. I'm speaking of the alternate, red light patch of the Matchless Chieftan,,the Cornford MK50H. That, to me, is one of the coolest sounding patches I've heard. Just put the drive past 12, and then, in the mod section, engage the Rotary Speaker effect. I don't know what that does, but it's wild, to me. I use the Gate and the Comp, too, along with some reverb and a little delay,,,but it's the Rotary that does something.

PS After checking Line6's site, it appears that the Plus and the XL are extant, though mine, the not so flexible one, seems extinct. Maybe it wasn't flexible enough a Flextone to continue production. [^]
