Since I found my guitar of choice and still love to collect gear I buy amps. I joke that I play one of each. I do tend to favor Marshall type sounds my Ganesha by Maven Peal is to me the end all Plexi style amps. I just got my first Mesa Boogie a few days ago it is a mint condition 1975 Mk I original and I am really impressed with they way it sounds. Very smooth, no fizz or buzziness. Checkout my web site for pictures of most of my amp collection.

Love these kind of threads. I'm currently playing my fly through the following set up:

Sansamp PSA01 Preamp
Marshall 8008 Poweramp
Rocktron Xpression Processor
BBE Sonic Maximiser

All through a Marshall 1936 cab on a stand

Floor board is a SKB powered unit containing the following:

Rocktron MidiXchange Midi controller
Peterson Strobostomp (Buy one!! It's an awesome tuner and even blows those rack mounted Korg Doohickies out of the water)
Morley Classic Wah
Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster
Zoom 505 acoustic processor direct to the PA for the Piezo

Chanels on the guitar are split between the Magnetic and Piezo options by a Morley ABY box. I use an Audio Technica UHF wireless system so blending as per using a Y cable is not possible (a shame!!). I just switch between the two options and occasionally mix the two by putting both (piezo and magnetic) signals through the acoustic processor. It works well!

My rig is actually pretty simple:

'99 Parker Fly Classic wRMC>
Mags > H&K zenTera combo w/ zBoard
RMC > Us 20> Roland GR 33 and Roland VG8 Ex > 2 Mackie SRM 450 cabs.

This setup gives me an absurd amount of tones/instruments. I can also run stereo out of the mags and put the RMC Piezo's through thier own channel, but I 've been happy with just using  a clean setting on the H&K when I need the acoustics.

Recording all this used to route through a Mackie 8 buss mixer, but I just sold that and am waiting for the Tascam DM3200 to come out next month. My DAW is a P4 3.0 PC running Sonar 4 Producer.

My rig sounds equally good live and direct.

1. Fly Classic > TU-2 tuner (which also acts as a kill switch) > Keeley TS-9 to boost solos
2. Roland GK2A > GR-33 synth

These two are brought together in a Boss LS-2.  For simple gigs the LS-2 goes before the pre-amp.  For more complicated things the LS-2 goes in the effects loop so that I can get overdriven guitar and clean synth at the same time.

Built it myself... It's got 2 channels; Fender and Marshall overdrive.  Variable Sag and Wattage.  Runs 2 different sets of power tubes in parallel with individual bias control for each tube. Got other stuff too.  Can be extremely clean for the Accoustic sound and totally saturated Distortion tone too.

I'm currently running my PM20 through a dunlop crybaby wah-->an old 2 channel KORG volume pedal-->Dunlup Fuzzface-->an old Roland Chorus Ensemble pedal-->1971 Garnet Lil' Rock 2 piece Tube Amp. I get a very very nice tone out of this set up, I love it. At times I have an echo and talk box pedal that I use as well. But I am currently looking into getting a PODxt Live pedal Toneworks AX1500G pedal, because I can't afford the PODxt Live, and I've researched the Korg pedal, and it looks to be a great pedal.[V]

right now im using my 67 dual showman head on my mesa 412 cab. i just sold my triple rectifier to my other guitarist after he blew his bolagnaty marshall head at a party.  my other amp is a jcm900 dual reverb combo that i barely use, pretty much for screwing around with at home.  then my pedal board goes: ibanez flanger-boss compression sustainer-big muff-ibanez tube screamer-small stone-boss eq.  the only reason i use the muff and ts9 is cause im in the middle of ordering a road king.

my guitars are an 80s les paul with classic 59+'s and an ibanez rg something or other.

I got my Mesa Boogie MK IV head from a friend who got it in '91 or so. I've known him since then and that boogie was nearly unused, beyond the living room. It's just coming of age, and getting some light/moderate gigging. Great tone! That goes into a Marshall 2-12 (model # 1922) cab, that is delicious sounding. I also use a DDL modeler (line 6), a synth-wah, and sometimes a wah-wah on the magnetic side.
The acoustic chain runs through a pedalboard with chorus, tuner, compressor, and EQ (graphic), all Boss. Then into an acoustic amp (Fender acoustasonic 30-which is underpowered for use with a rock band BTW, but enough for home practice), or also feed to a PA. Sometimes a dash of ebow.

Well, with great trepidation I'll post a pic of my little pedal board.  I have a NiteFly Mojo.  The mag pickups go to the Zoom G2.1u, through a DI box direct to the PA.  The piezo pickups go to the SansAmp, out to the Zoom 504II, then through the DI box to the PA.  I know many look at digital stuff (especially cheap digital stuff!) with disdain but it works for me, to play a wide range of stuff.  One of my bandmates plays a vintage Les Paul through a board full of analog pedals into a JCM stack and generally the audience criticizes his sound as too loud/fuzzy.  Our other guitarist plays a Strat through a Line 6 Pod and it sounds great but the Pod electronics and algorhythms are getting dated (if that means anything).

I keep it really simple.  A Boss SD1, a DS1, a DD3 delay, and an Ernie Ball mono volume pedal into either a Roland JC90 w/2x10's or a Peavey Stereo Chorus 400 w/2x12's.  With the Roland I also place an Alesis Nanoverb into the effects loop as the spring reverb is so-so at best. I run in mono as I don't trust the drummer in the band (who runs the PA) to correctly tweak the piezo.  I do mic up my amp w/a SM57 or 58.

This is a pretty interesting thread, so I guess I'll weigh in. Besides what you see in my signature, there is some stuff I'm trying to sell, but I won't mention that, in keeping with forum rules.

I'm not playing out electrically at present, though I do a fair bit of recording. On the acoustic side I have a Seagull Grand guitar, 3 fiddles(for different tunings), a viola(tuned to a very low fiddle,,a 15 incher), a 1919 Vega Tubaphone conversion 5 string banjo with a Wyatt Fawley neck, a Deering Deluxe tenor banjo, 2 Saz(Turkish bozouki type lute), an oud, a sarod, sitar, tanpura, tekerolant(Hungarian style hurdy gurdy), a Weber Gallatin mandolin, and a 24 string lap harp nylon strung(Jeff Gaynor). I do the gurdy at church sometimes. It's great for medieval ecclesiastical stuff(cantigas, what have you), and for ethnic percussion I have a davul(tupan), doumbek, a pair of tablas, and a bodhran.

Then, the Fly, and a Dano Longhorn bass(I have a Fender, but all of a sudden it's too heavy), and a Zoom RT 123 drum machine. I was using drums, but it gets too wacky trying to record drums by yourself. I don't record the drum machine till I have to, preferring to let it just play through on the Roland's clock, so I can change patterns, etc.

The recorder is a Roland VS2400CD, 24 track, and I run it into a Tannoy TS10 woofer, and then into a pair of Tannoy 800A nearfields. (these bid fair to be too powerful, and if I had my druthers I'd grab a pair of Dynaudio Acoustic BM5A's, but that'll have to wait.) Since I dont have a R-Buss, I'm constrained to 8 inputs on the Roland, and for front ends I'm using a Langevin Dual Vocal Combo, a Universal Audio 2108 with a Langevin ELOP behind it, for limiting/compression(I put the drum machine through the UA),,these two units take up inputs 1-4, then a old Focusrite Trakmaster, and a Drawmer MX60 Front End One, inputs 5 and 6, and for 7 and 8 I'm running the PODxt into a Drawmer DL241 TRS model VCA compressor. The Drawmers have great gates, and comp/limiting. I run the bass into the MX60 using a Tech21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI, and also I think I'm going to mike the bass simultaneously through the FlextoneIII's 4-10 Bassman patch, and the Fly, of course, through the PODxt. Never know,,it might go elsewhere, too. I have a Vox ToneLab, but I'm out of inputs, and the POD is just too useful with the tuning function, and the reverse delay. I am tempted to put the EL7 FATSO behind the POD, but the Drawmer gate is so handy,,just grab the knob, and the FATSO hasn't one. A Behringer PowerPlayPro headphone mixer. 2 pair Audio Technica ATM40FS and 2 pair cheapo headphones, if I ever need that many. I used to run the FATSO on the 2 Buss of the analog mixer, but the Roland doesn't afford me that option, having no insert there.

My mikes are several cheap old Shure dynamics, an SM57, a EV RE20, AKG D112, and a Sennheiser e609 silver. The Condensers are two Marshall MXL 600's(not the 603), 2 Rode NT1's(the old one,,one really nice,,much older than the other which has a cheaper capsule), a Rode NT3, an SE Electronics SE5000 tube mike(6072A), a BLUE Blueberry, and a Soundeluxe U195.

Scads of cables, boomstands, couple of table racks, monitor stands. All those other accoutrements one needs. The iMac is no longer part of the studio. On my old one, I'd run into a MOTU 828, with Digital Performer, but now I've OSX, on the new iMac, and the MOTU is obsolete, and I don't feel like springing for more computer interfaces and all the rest, as what I have is well self contained. That could change, but I'm set for the moment.

A bunch of other stuff which I'm not using, so I'll not get into it. When I got the Roland I no longer needed a compressor in each insert of the analog board, running an Alesis HD24, and that took some things out of service. I took two more front ends out of service because I figured the PODxt had enough preamp grunt itself to not need them, but I did want to use the Drawmer DL241, for its gate/comp.

PS Also, I have a Korg Pandora PX4, the blue one, for headphone jamming, practice. It makes an ok recording modeler too, if needed.

Bob, the 828 I have is the very first one they made. The CD may or may not,,I'd need to check, be able to go OSX,,I got the 828 in 2001. But I'm running Tiger, and I'd need to load AudioDesk in, also, and, the MOTU 828, last I checked seems to be acting up anyway,,scratchy pots,,other stuff.

PS here I go, sorry, also my old G3 had a Gig of RAM, whereas now I  just have 512Megs of it. Once  I had the orginal AudioDesk in, I upgraded to fuller versions of DP, and I'm wondering if I could load it again,,licensing,,etc. etc. Maybe when I get the time, and energy, I'll investigate all this,,but at this point I'm not inclined to. Of course it's just the AudioDesk on the 828 CD, and that's all I'd want.

Nothing wrong with what you are using IMHO.  My pedal board has been set up ready for my first Fly (as soon as I have enough pennies saved).  I currently use a Patrick Eggle Berlin Pro in to an AB box.  One side to a Korg GT1 tuner, the other side to a Zoom GFX-1 multi effects.  That is then output to a Mesa Boogie Calibre 50 which is awesome.  The second side of the pedal board will be for the piezo and that will run through a Zoom 504II acoustic processor direct into the PA, possible via a DI box if required.  It is a simple set up but it works for me, and that is what counts. Picture below.

2003 Fender Mex 60s classic Strat w/2 Kinman PU's & 1 20 year old Bill Lawrence L250 (bridge)
2005 Fender Mex Nashville Tele (stock)
2006 Parker PM-20 (1 week old)

I'm by and large a single coil kinda guy, so my Strat will soon return to its original PUs. I really don't know why I got the Parker, and neither does my wife :-) It's GREAT for playing on, though - I haven't really made up my mind how much I like to listen to it. Guess I'll have to go through a humbucker adaptation period.

Korg AX3000G (replacement for a semi-retired Yamaha DG-Stomp. I miss the DG's rotary, however !), which goes into the loop return of a

the Korg is convenient, but I alternatively use:
Jacques FuseBlower II
T-Rex CompNova
Tech21 Double Drive
Rocktron Astin Gold overdrive
Snarling Dogs VeryToneDog
Danelectro Tunamelt tremolo (dirt cheap and GREAT !)
Boss LS-2 line selector
i use from one to all of these depending on the context (The CompNova is (almost) always ON. Great product from an even greater company. EXCELLENT after-purchase service, even from abroad (It's made in Denmark))

With either my Parker Fly Classic or Deluxe...

I'm currently using a Maxon Compressor into a Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Classic, into a GNX3000 into a Bose PAS L1.

This new age system has allowed me to sell my Lone Star Boogie, Fender 65' Twin Reverb reissue and more, without missing them whatsoever.

Here’s a guitar rig I put together to allow me to really explore the sounds from the stereo output on my Parker Notefly Mojo Flame:

One output of the Parker goes to a Behrenger V-Amp pro, and the other goes to a M-Audio Black Box. Both the V-Amp and the Black Box have stereo outputs, so I’m running those four outputs to a mixer in the rack so I can mix it to two to feed into the stereo power amp, which feeds a pair of small studio monitor speakers. This mixer allows me to have the four individual channels output for recording as well as mixing them for the amplifier output. This give me a huge variety of sounds and control – as configured, it’s only for recording and practice, you’d need much bigger speakers to use it live (the amp is 100w/ch, so it’s probably powerful enough). I also have a Rickenbacker 370/12 that has a stereo output that this rig works well with.

Heres some pics of my recently fine-tuned guitar collection. Fine-tuned as in...I got rid of a few & picked up a few in the last year or so & didnt want to post til I had my stuff down. This collection will stay this way for some time now. Each guitar serves a purpose...

Heres a couple of pics...

One:

Two:

Bottom row left to right:
Blue Shadow S-140, Red Shadow S-140, 88 Kramer Nightswan (Signed by Vivian Campbell)

Middle row left to right:
Parker 10th anniversary fly, Parker Single cut red flame, Parker 2003 Nitefly M, 89 Kramer Proaxe Std

Top row left to right:
Wayne Charvel personally built & set up custom Villain (not a "Fender" Charvel) w/flat fret board radius (one of a kind - & he'll never make another!), Carvin California Carved Top flame sunburst (easily the best looking guitar I own, stainless jumbo frets too!)

As stated earlier, each guitar serves a purpose & I couldnt possibly pick a favorite! So dont ask me to, please...

I did start recording a new cd to be completed in the next year or so. The first track rough take is on my space. It was recorded through my Zoom MRS-1608 & I used my black 10th anny fly. For some reason, it just feels right for that tune.

I must re-state that this was recorded only minutes after I came up with the riff & has a basic drum & bass beat & is basically improvised on the fly. The past few weeks have seen me fine tuning the song but no recording is available yet. Maybe an update soon...

Enjoy!

Ill post pics of my amps & stuff later on.

Nice to hear a riff rather than another how fast can I play it shred. Guess reading uburoibob's posts on musicality is having an effect on me. Do you write words to your songs? Do you ever use a computer and Pro Tools to record? I spent an hour Sunday pulling my hair out trying to figure out why the click track on ProTools LE would not make any sound. I had the playback mix turned off and the play click track turned to only play on record, simple mistakes.

I cant shred & only play enough lead to get by. Maybe not even that much. But Ive had a good ear for music all my life. I love an awesome riff compared to over the top "machismo". Ive got nothing to prove to anyone except myself. Music has always come first for me & finally after many years, Im putting my ideas down.

The zoom unit is all I have to record with, but it'll get the job done. The last time I EVER recorded was back in the late 80s on my Yamaha MT1X four track recorder. Im still trying to get the Zoom unit down & have only had it about a month & really havent had a chance to do anything but lay this bit down. Plus, Ive had this nasty virus for the past month too. By the time I get done with a 12 hour work day & see my wife & kid, Im down for the count! so Ive really not had a chance to get to know the unit.

I actually had a couple of other ideas for songs that I was going to start on, but then I pulled up this rhythm on the Zoom & this riff just came to me...I think its pretty cool & has a bit of a Satriani vibe to it, but its all me. Ive pretty much forgotten the other songs until this one gets done.

Yes, I do sing & I really suck at writing lyrics, so I get help from others on that front (the lyrics). To me, lyrics & soloing are one in the same...it just doesnt happen for me. Smokin riffs come out all the time, but to solo ... I get tongue tied.

This tune is going to be without vocals, but others I have in mind will be complete with lyrics & all. This one just seemed to work better without lyrics, which is cool, because I never thought Id be able to write a good "guitar" song, due to my limited skill & speed.

The Carvin just RIPs! It is easily my most versatile sounding guitar & overall best sounding, but the 10th Parker is my favorite for playability overall & it sounds great too. But... the Nightswan is amazing & has the skinniest little neck ever & Duncan full shred bridge pickup. Its my best guitar for harmonics & probably the fastest player I have.

Very pretty! The one thing I just noticed about the Jazz for the first time - the Sperzels are not locking Sperzels! I never realized that before. I think that makes it the only US Fly without the locking tuners.

Speaking of gold frets, how did Parker meke the stainless steel frets gold
colored on the Jazz anyway? Also is it really necessary to have the locking

Mine stays in tune just fine, but I really think locking tuners should be standard on any guitar without a locking nut. General rule is "less string wrap, better tuning stability". I think the fact that the tuners are good quality helps even without locking mechanisms. On the other hand, my Shadow guitars have original Schaller "made in W. Germany" tuners in awesome shape & they lose tune all the time. I replaced with grover cam lock tuners & now they are perfect.

The locking Sperzels just make changing strings easier. Shove through the hole, twist the back of the Sperzel, and you are up to pitch in seconds. A little string stretching, but no tuner post slipping. Nice invention. Not necessary, but nice.

Worst part is I don't have a parker anymore! I've been carefully combing the internet looking for the next parker or 2 that I'll be taking in. Definitely another supreme (I had to sell my last one due to a ton of recurring problmes) and possibly a mojo and either a bronze or nylon..still deciding. Other than that currently I run the following, and may be looking to sell/trade some to get my parkers:

PRS emerald green santana I
PRS 1990 handmade custom, tortoise shell
PRS brazilian custom 24, # 444/500
Fender american deluxe fat strat, trans. teal

Mesa Triaxis/2:90, TC electronics G Major,
Fender evil twin, fender cyber twin, fender satellite, various vintage 30's cabs (marshall and mesa)... thats about it other than a ton of pedals and little gadgets.. enjoy guys

I just got my first fly in the mail today.  Here's a couple pictures.  I need to retake the guitar collection pic to include my new red 98 fly Classic.  The second pic is of my Blond amp collection.  I still need to take a group pic of my Blackface and Tweed amps and other amps that arn't blond.  I like Blonds.

Dude, you've got some bad ass GAS ! [:)]

Looks like you wiped out the entire guitar store [:D]

What is the little parlor on the far left ? [:p]

It will be interesting to see how your collection starts changing after you have played the Fly awhile [:0] [8D]

Yeah I have enough GAS to to float a blimp. Actually I've been collecting these for the past 45 years.  The little guy on the left is a ukelele I bought in Hawaii.  My favorites are (top row) the little  Lowden accoustic, PRS Hollowbody, Gretch (Bottom row) the 64 Gibson SG and the Lacewood Tobias Bass. I have an couple I would sell if the right Fly came along.  I played my new Classic for about 3 hours last night and I feel a bad case of the WIND coming on.

Sorry for the bad picture quality, the camera was on some wierd setting and I didn't feel like taking new pictures, lol. Those pictures don't do justice to my Gibson and Parker, so here's some better pictures of them:

I'm running a rather complicated (but versatile!)setup:
Fly Stereo output - mag side to Rocktron Taboo Twin; Piezo to Midimate Multimixer 6 (6 channel mixer).
GK-2A pickup to GR-30 - Stereo outs to Multimixer 6.
Roland JX-8P mono to Multimixer, MIDI'd to JV-1010 module stereo out to Multimixer.
I can run the multimixer in stereo or mono to PA, same goes for Taboo Twin's direct outputs.
Boss TU-2 Tuner off Taboo Twin's tuner out.
Lexicon MPX R1 with Yamaha CV Pedal (set for volume control).

Also in the arsenal, but only used for recording:
LAB L5, Ampeg VH-140C, Korg A-3/FC-6 controller (VH-140C/A-3 was previous rig, prior to winning the Taboo Twin from Guitar Player [:D]), Silverface Fender Princeton, Danelectro Dirty Thirty.  At home keyboard is an Alesis QS8.1 (but I'm NOT hauling anything with 88 keys to a gig!)

Other guitars are listed in my signature.  I also have an MSA Pedal Steel that stays in a case (takes up too much room).  I usually keep the Tele in open D or DADGAD, but lately have been using it on a recording in standard tuning.

Basically, I can get electric, acoustic, and synth tones out of the Fly, have a reasonable keyboard rig, and occupy just 2 to 4 channels of PA.  It's a small nightmare to gig with, but ever so rewarding!  (I'm also the guy that has to set up the PA - of course...)
