Parker Koa Fly
« on: October 20, 2005, 02:19:51 PM »
I just took delivery of my signature Parker Fly!!

First off, I would like to thank John Vitale for working so hard to make this a reality! John has been there through every single stage of this development, and without him, this would not have been possible! Johnny, you are the man!!!!!!

I would also like to thank all of the great people who worked on this guitar and rushed and pushed to make this happen as well. Patience DEFINITELY paid off big time.

Several months back, I had posted that I was working with Parker to develop this guitar, but I will give you the specs again:

Solid Koa Body (Handpicked by Johnny and friends!)
Basswood Neck (offset the dark tones of the Koa with a brighter
                  tone neck wood)
   Gold Hardware
Gold Bridge (wait until you see this gold bridge!!!)
Brand New Open Back Sperzel triple lock tuners
Custom Seymour Duncan Humbucker (only one pickup)
   Clear coat finish

I wanted an extremely streamlined Parker for stage use....something that would have incredible sustain, lots of tone (thanks to the Koa), and very easy to maintain in the real world (I am SOOOOO glad that Parker has gotten away from ribbon tracing electronics and proprietary circuit boards!!!! Try dealing with that on tour in a hurry, and you quickly realize that this idea forces you to have many MANY backups in case something craps out.....and it always does on tour[;)]).

This guitar will become my main instrument on the upcoming tour, and I will be posting images next week!!!

For everyones personal edification I run my Parkers through the following:

Sennheiser Wireless Unit
ISP Noise Reduction
Too Many effects!!!
ISP Noise Reduction
Randall RM4 Pre Amp System with modded modules
Randall R2/50 Power Amp with NOS Genelec Tubes (WAYYYY TOO MUCH $$$ FOR THESE TUBES, BUT RIDUCULOUSLY KILLER SOUNDING)
Randall 4x12 Cab's (2)

I will be posting High Res images of this guitar very soon (wake up publicity photgrapher[:)]).

I also need to thank Seymour Duncan, Jessica Sonquist, and MJ, for creating this incredible pickup. I am a very happy endorser.

Thanks again Johnny!!!

Cheers

Congratulations on the creation of a one-of-a-kind.  The choices of wood interest me, and not just for the visually aesthetic qualities (although I'm sure it's a beauty).  What are the specs on the humbucker?  (curiosity drives me...)

It's intriguing guitar; I can't wait to see it!

I would LOVE to see some pics...VERY excited for you to put them up when you get a chance! I have been thinking about having a custom Koa Fly built. How much did it cost to have it made? I can give you my e-mail address if you do not want to reply on the forum. I am sure this will be a question on the mind of anyone who has ever thought to themselves about having a custom built Fly.

Daynwarren,
Due to my endorsement deal, I can't tell you how much this cost, but suffice to say...it ain't cheap[B)]!!!!

   Tvadakia,

I have an endorsement deal with Seymour Duncan as well, and we are discussing promotional aspects of marketing this pickup if all goes well, so if (and when) this goes through, I will let you know details. I don't mean to sound so mysterious, but I haved no choice at the moment[:)]

I will be speaking with the label's publicity photographer this weekend and we will be doing a photo shoot next week. Some of these images will be posted in the forum. You guys are going to trip on this guitar!!!! Parker really made a beauty, and the sound is absolutely incredible!!!!

Not to sound like I don't know anything about it... but I don't know anything about it.  What are the "Brand New Open Back Sperzel triple lock tuners" he's talking about?  What advantages do they have over the standard Sperzels?

And Michael, my name's Michael as well if you'd prefer.  I'm very excited and pumped; now next week is too far away.  (what a time to be picking features for my own Custom Fly...)

As a slight addendum... will you be posting sound-clips (along with what all is involved in the sound besides the guitar itself)?

Hey Tvadakia,

The new Sperzels just came out. They do not have the screw type locking mechanism. The new tuners route the string directly down through the main gear. You pull the string all the way through to tighten, turn the tuner one half turn, and then this locks the string via three locking points. All you have to do then is to cut the excess string off of the bottom and you are locked!!! No more worries about trying to pop the older style tuners locking pin back down so that you can get a new string in(another pain in the butt when you are playing live and have to change strings (or have your tech change strings)).

Everything that was chosen for this guitar was picked specifically for absolute reliability.

I basically had a sword built[:)].

Michael,

You already have some wonderful clips on your site.  Wonderful guitar playing there, I'll have to get a CD.

Can't wait to hear the new guitar though.

Hey John!!  (I hope you're tuning in).  I don't s'pose Parker will allow the Custom Shop to use the Sperzels that Michael is touting?  If so, I'll get ahold of my local dealer and have them change my listing for my quote.

Cheers all.

Hi Michael congratulations on the new Signature guitar that's just so cool. Mmm... Koa...I like.[:D] Can't wait to see the pictures.

And thank you to for the advise on the Blackfinger compressor and the ISP noise reduction they are both keepers. I love the compressor it is just so smooth and is so transparent just works great in front of all my amps. [^]

Michael,

Thanks for the compliments, and thanks for buying the CD! This new Parker is stunning! Last night I finally dialed it in perfectly, and I now can achieve all of the tonality that I had hoped for....including a very nice fat neck pickup tone, and just by slightly altering volume levels. The sensitivity of this pickup coupled with the Koa wood is incredible!~

Alex,

You are very welcome about the Black Finger and the ISP units[:)]. The Black Finger is the best compressor pedal that I have ever seen!
By the way, your Ducati's are incredible!!!!!

Cheers

One thing to consider with the new Sperzels:

They will not retro fit to an existing Parker with standard Sperzels. The guide pin holes are in a different location, and there is not enough wood in the headstock to reposition. ...I suppose you could get someone to fill the hole and then redrill, but you are looking at pretty tight tolerances, and the string tension and pressure would be a factor to consider.

Michael, If they have not started on the neck of your guitar yet, let them know immediately before they drill the holes, or you won't be able to use the new Sperzels.

   Cheers!

Thanx Michael.  I'm just now getting the quote done, so I'll be ok.  It's odd, now that I have the monies for the purchase I'm finding new options I've never considered.  I hope Parker is patient with my mind's meandering on these new ideas.  (I’m sure they will be... right? ;-) )
