Here's a True One of a Kind....
A while ago I posted a story about a Dusty Black Deluxe that i had picked up on ebay and upon arrival was in terrible condition, Structurally sound, but just neglected. Needed a darn good scrubbing and some touch up. I didn't want to do too much to it as it was owned by Fishbone Guitarist Spacey T (pictured here with the Fly as it had looked)
I scrubbed it clean, and sent it to get the clear coat repaired. Instead of getting repaired, it got ruined, I won't go into detail again, but it was totally trashed.
I was bummed out and after a week of deep thought decided to strip the whole thing back and get it completely re-finished. But what to do?
I had a dream, I drempt of a Fly with a swirl paint job, yeah, right! how's that going to happen! The planets seemed to align as Alan from 'out of this swirled' www.outofthisswirled.com
posted on the forum asking if anyone wanted to swirl a Parker! Wow! No Way! So i dropped him a note and we struck up a great friendship as we planned the project. I finished stripping the guitar, and sent it to England, and Alan got to work. He first had to move his business to a larger space to accommodate a larger, deeper tank to get the whole Guitar submerged, once Alan was settled and up and running, the guitar was prepped, sealed, primered and swirled. Swirling happens in the moment, once the paint goes in to the tank and is swirled that's it, it in the hands of the cosmos, what happens, happens, no two are the same, ever. Alan wasn't happy with the first two atempts and cleaned it back to the white primer base twice. The depth of the water and the bouyancy of the guitar was proving difficult to control and get good paint coverage. 3rd time was a charm, kinks ironed out and a great swirl was captured. After Alan was done with his part, the guitar was boxed up and sent to Sharon and Lisa at Shazrock Custom Paint & Guitars www.shazrockpaint.com
. This was my second project with Sharon and Lisa. Sharon cleaned the guitar ready for clear coat, fret marker, fly and serial decals, and removed buildup from wire holes, screw holes, pickup routes and surfaces around the spring and trem cavity. Lisa put together an experimental point to point wiring scheme, which eliminated the flex circuitry. The guitar got a high gloss clear and buffing, new knobs, straplocks and New Gen 2 pickups with blacked out poles.
From start to finish, this project has only been possible because of the hard work and dedication to it from Alan, Sharon and Lisa. from the get go the project has had its ups and downs. The Guitar has spent most of its life on the road in a hard working band, been all over the world, no doubt abused and then suffered the indignity of carelessness. Truly a testament to this amazing instrument, after all it has been through, right out of the packing box it was in perfect tune.
I can't thank Alan, Sharon and Lisa enough. When i opened the case, I had no words, I had Sharon on the phone, and she was getting a kick out of how speechless I was, I'm still in awe. To see it all done and finished is really a thrill, I just need to get busy learning some new chops to do it justice
Thanks For Looking!
