2009 factory tour, lets get something set up
« on: June 30, 2009, 09:31:33 AM »
To any and all interested, we want to offer a similar PARKER EXPERIENCE as we did in 2008. I know times are tough, but the invitation is open. Can we methodically pick a date range for the widest number of participants, get a participant list going, get a general idea of what you would like to have happen during the visit etc.
Are there any sugestions on how to improve the experience this year?

Having not been at the first Parker Experience, I do not have much input into what to suggest to improve on the previous.

That being said, I am moving to Chicago in August and would love to come! As long as I can afford it after the move, starting school, etc....

Terry, I went on the first one, and upon reflection, the one part of the process I would liked to see that we didn't is for you to walk us through how Parker handles a custom order.  Like, who takes it, where does it go after that, how communication is handled, etc.  I've been thinking of saving for a custom Fly, and I'm just kind of curious about how that works.  Other than that, I think about what we did last time was cool.

PS - one other idea would be to schedule the group to attend a live show somewhere (like on a Friday night), preferably where Flys are flying!

No other suggestions than "don't be that freakin' far away half way 'round the globe"! And of course - in advance - to everyone who will be there: Enjoy and bring your cameras!

Greetings...

Justwatchign-Jeff's previous suggestions sounded good - at least 2 days - so we get to see the production process - plus the price includes a discounted custom model etc etc

Well depending on the dates and the cost, I would be interested.  I had a guitar holiday planned this year that hasn't panned out and this would make an amazing replacement.

Does this tend to run over a weekend or mid week?

I am in.  Last time I got into a car accident on my way to the airport.
Good news is that I was not hurt but shaken up quite a bit.
Everybody on the forum sent me their good wishes.

So I will and would love to attend this event.  Please count me in and send me details when available.

Correct me if I am wrong but last years event didn't cost anything except the expense of getting there.  Jeff's idea for this year was an extravagant one and a very costly (but a great idea).  So I guess I'm a little confused here.  Terry, are you just trying to put together a 3 hour tour (pun intended) kind of like last year or something a little more extreme?

Thanks.

I think what they did last year should be repeated.  No more/no less.

I Think trying to sell a package here is inappropriate. Jeff, (God knows I loved that guy) was a salesman and looked for an opportunity to include a sale in the package.
I am a manufacturer whose highest hopes for this tour are direct informational exchange with our customers. I would like for the people who come to have a chance to play dragonflys and single cuts since there aren't many (or any in the dragonfly case) in the stores. I would like for the forum members who do come to act as representaties or agents for those who don't.
I took a lot of the points of discussion from last year and tried to incorporate them into future production. This yielded the dragonfly in part, and has affected some of the things we want to do down the road. It would be a good time to discuss the down the road direction of Parker, though again we are opening up the company to...
Despite the risks, we still want to engage with the forum members and try to forge the future for Parker.
I do want to make some points ahead of the visit though.
I bought vinyl. My sone will never own a vinyl record.
I like blues and a Les Paul through a bassman or a strat through a vibroverb.
My son likes high gain Duncans through a marshall with a stomp box.
I say tomato, well he says tomato too, but I hope you get my point.
The Parker family is broader than US/Massachusets made Fly guitars. What you bought is not the  brand. We are all passengers on the boat. None of us are captains. We are fortunate that the captains will listen to us and take us places we want to go sometimes.
That being said, last year was succesfull and I hope to at least repeat the success if not build on it and take it further this time.
Lets pick dates for a visit. nothing more elaborate than that for now.

I'll be in the Chicago area the last week of July. Does Parker offer just general factory tours, or would I need to get onto something special like this? If possible, who do I contact to set up a tour?

I talked to Parker, and due to insurance, etc, they do not do general tours for individuals but do organize special tours now and then like last year's forum tour. So is anyone interested in trying to get something going like last year for the last week of July (week of July 27 - 31)?

Count me in and let me know what I can do to help. Any tips from last year's organizers?

I am voting for sometime after August 7th, but that is for selfish reasons :) (I won't have moved to Chicago until then). However, if we decide to do it before then, so be it. I'll just try to hit the next one!
