Posted - 05/07/2008 : 12:39:00 PM I've had a few friends request pictures of the newest family member, so here they are. Photo quality not-so-good; the guitar UNBELIEVABLE!

Anything that you've read about these is true. I've got to get to an accurate scale; the only guitar I've ever held in the same weight range was Ken's Cedar/Cedar Bronze. I'm guessing under 4 pounds. And the tone is thick, heavy, punchy - maybe the Anti-Deluxe! Alex was right on the money when he described the finish's feel - like an orange, lumpy but smooth. I need to get the D-Thing repaired or replaced, and I'm crushed at having to take it out of service. (I'll be on the road all next week though, so that works out to be pretty good timing.)
I don't mean to gloat, but I really had to share.

Posted - 07/05/2008 : 7:56:27 PM Hey Tom,
A Stealth is a "Heavy Metal" version of the Fly. (Not that I play Heavy Metal at all, but that was the marketing angle.) As you can see, it's a hard-tail. What you can't see is that it's a basswood body/ basswood neck, and so is even lighter than your standard Fly (outside of Bronze's and Artists).
In 2003 the Fly underwent a "refinement". You can read all about the differences here: http://forums.parkerguitars.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7128, but to sum up: The pre-refined Fly has Master Volume, Mag Volume, Mag Tone, then concentric Piezo Volume/ Piezo Tone controls.
The Stealth is also outfitted with a Sperzel D-Thing Tuner, so that you can drop the low E to a D instantly, and with total accuracy.
The only thing that really makes them "sought after" is that there were fewer than 100 made. And I can tell you this: I'm not letting go of mine! It's the first guitar that I grab, unless I need GK or whammy. But at 4 pounds, 6.8 ounces, it feels like you're not even wearing a guitar! (I had a Microdiscectomy at L4-L5 in 2004 myself, so I know to some extent what you're coping with.)
Cheers Tom!

Larry,
What is a Stealth and why are they so desirable? What is the extra control knob compared to what I have on my new Mojo Flame? How do they sound?
Regards,
Tom

Posted - 06/23/2008 : 8:37:35 PM 4th Dan, now that's some real stealthy mojo. Sorry, couldn't pass it up. (Just a little white belt working on my second kata, but loving it and have great respect for those before me.) I know several of us can vouch for Larry and a good time being had. Good Luck.

Posted - 06/13/2008 : 8:41:51 PM Laughing Larry I see you live in Florida I have a cousin that lives in the same city. If everything works out for me and my daughter next fourth of July in 09 we will be in Florida. Both my daughter and I are 4th Dan in Tae Kwon Do and the AAU Nationals are in FortLauderdal. My cousin live in Boca and maybe we could get together.

Posted - 05/07/2008 : 10:02:19 PM Great shots! Glad you got that one!
I think the finish even adds to the sculptural appearance of the Fly.
I really appreciated the notice on the single 2. It was my slow typing skills and my not really understanding the bidding thing on ebay. I was trying to increase my bid and hit the wrong button. DOH! The hunt continues.
I often wonder why I can play three thousand notes a minute but only type thirty words. I'm sure I'd be better off playing fewer notes and using more words.

Posted - 05/07/2008 : 9:42:16 PM Wow! To me, it gives the impression of being physically heavy like a piece of stone. It must be surprising for some people to pick it up and feel the contrary. |

Posted - 05/07/2008 : 5:12:59 PM quote: Please forgive me for forgetting how/where you obtained the guitar. Can you refresh my memory?

Well Chris, Derek (Ocker) put a request for one in the classifieds. Lane found this one languishing at the Guitar Center in Amarillo, TX, and posted the link to it here on the forum (in Ocker's thread, of course). Being nearly a gentleman, I messaged Derek to find out if he was going to buy it, and when he put up a post saying that he had to pass, I jumped.
I tried to reciprocate with good karma to Lane by pointing him to the Majik Blue Single 2 on the Bay (and not putting it on the forum - sorry, but I figued I owed him), but he lost it in the last 15 seconds or so...
Anyway, there you have it!

Posted - 05/07/2008 : 1:51:02 PM Larry,
I never thought I would like a guitar like that but I'm falling in love with the look and the way you describe the weight and the sound makes me very envious. Please forgive me for forgetting how/where you obtained the guitar. Can you refresh my memory?

Posted - 05/07/2008 : 1:24:10 PM Congrats Larry, very sweet!!! I feel the same way about my 93 Deluxe. It's the first thing I reach for at home. I don't even care about plugging it in. It just plays so well, I love it! It will never see the light of day or risk being dinged, but it plays like a dream!

Posted - 05/07/2008 : 1:13:04 PM Kav, I doubt that it will go to gigs with me. I have to limit it to 2 guitars, and as cool as it is, it has neither a trem nor GK pickup. So it'll be the Single 2 as main guitar, Deluxe as (though it truly pains me to say it) #2. The Stealth will be my studio secret weapon, and the one I grab first anytime I want to practice or just jam at home. At least that's the plan. The Single 2 is MINT - not a mark on her. It'd be nice to keep it that way, but I just adore the single coil sound. Hmmmm...
The Stealth is just begging for a Roland GK pickup to complete the Cyborg experience, but I'm really hesitant to go shooting screws into a relatively rare guitar. (If the GK wouldn't stick with tape on a perfectly smooth Fly, I know with absolute certainty that it won't work on the textured version in this humid environment. )
I really don't have to worry about any of this too much right now; the band hasn't practiced since January. It's a Catch 22 situation: no gigs on the horizon - no practice. But we've gotten a couple of calls for last minute gigs that we've had to turn down, because we're not well-rehearsed.
