Just wanted to say Hi.
I am a Parker Fly owner for the second time! I am so excited. I parted with my 1998 Fly Classic (red) with a "Fred" in the bridge and a PAF in the neck... ask me how I did this pickup swap sometime...you will be surprised at how easy ANY dimarzio will fit with this method...! I also parted with my Nitefly SA with 3 Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups...this was back in 2005 when I worked for "The" George Gruhn at Gruhn guitars in Nashville, TN (who was NOT a parker fan in the least...as were the vast majority of the guys in the repair and restoration department where I worked). I unfortunately succumbed to "peer pressure" and parted with not only my Parkers but also my Steinbergers... I bought some Rickenbackers and some vinatge Guild Guitars and have regretted my decision ever since.
I have since bought a 1998 Parker Fly Deluxe (red) which I bought for a mere $700.00 off of craigslist....and I could not be happier. It's like an old friend.
Just wanted to introduce myself and open up the gates of communication to be able to express my new found excitement for what I believe is one of the most innovative guitar designs of the last 50+ years!
A little about myself... I am a Fender Musical Instrument Corporation Certified Repair man. I have been certified since 2004-2005. I have repaired over 6000 guitars in the past decade. Built acoustic guitars for J.W. Gallagher & Sons (these are the guitars that Doc Watson plays) & worked for the world renowned George Gruhn as a repair tech. I am a Steinberger enthusiast and a Parker enthusiast!
I have been listening non-stop to Living Colour and have convinced myself that next to Reeves Gabrels, Vernon Reid is one of the more innovative rock guitarist of our time.
I have an 18 month old son who I am sure is going to knock my socks off as a musician in the future and a loving wife who actually can relate to "GAS" (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). She understand my addiction and she supports my latest greatest guitar phases whether it be Fender Strats, Ibanez RG's or Parkers...
That's a little bit about me...as I promised I would in another thread ;)
I certainly hope I am welcome here and look forward to be able to contribute to this forum.
Sad enough, I did join this forum to actually make some friends...so, here I go!!!

Howdy 905! Welcome aboard. I'm fairly new here myself but really appreciate ths forum.
I've started at the bottom with a P36 and then a P44pro, both of which I find quite impressive. The pro has quickly become my favorite, but that may change soon as I have a DF on the way...
btw, have you seen the new Dragonflys???
Life's too short to play boring guitars... |

Whoa! I didn't realize that many guitars existed. ;) Welcome, and it sounds like you'll have a lot to contribute to the mix.

welcome (back)!
would love to hear more about the pickup swap- imagine you'll be doing one to your current fly? pictures are good...
I can sort of relate, I was on a bit of a hiatus since grad school, marriage moving to a new state, and having a 2year old. Stumbled onto this forum and some of the latest gear while starting to thin the herd, and realized how much I missed the guitar thing, especially my fly! Only regret the rusty fingers and brain but its loosening up.

Welcome indeed. You will find a lot of very friendly and very enthusiastic Parker fans here. We are also blessed to have BillyT AKA Terry, who is one of the top guys in Parker and he regularly visits here and keeps us up to date with the goings on and what is really happening at Parker (as oppose to the nonsense you often hear).
Glad you found you way back to the fold.

Sadly... I have my (new to me) Parker listed on ebay...:(
I got a letter in the mail from my credit card company and they decided to lower our credit limit and are requiring us to pay a significant amount if not all of the existing balance. Suffice to say... my wife freaked. We talked an both agreed that we need to sell off some things to get this paid and to keep our credit scores on the up and up.
Fortunately, I have only had my Fly for a few days and have not had near enough time to bond with it... I will still remain a member of this forum but, I will be as you say "Fly-less" for a little while.
Once the dust settles I will get another one.
I may break down and sell my strat to finance another one...lol
But we will see.
Here is the link...

To address a previous question swapping pickups is easy on th Flys but you have to think about swapping them from the opposite end. You do all your soldering on the end of the pickup not on the pots. Basically what you do is swap the bobbins from a pickup you want to install. You re-solder the new coils and whalla! You don't have to worry about melting or tearing the ribbon cable or damaging your pots. Yes, it is still tedious but much lower risk. Remember to do this with Dimarzios only! ;)

bummer about the banks- a pox on their house.
thanks for the pickup swap info. I imagined that might be possible but I know how nasty it is when you screw up your windings...
